FarmingFarmer2468
I am going to try and get some ply wood for my first layout board at the weekend!!!
FarmingFarmer2468
Just a quick question. Do you think I should use mdf of ply wood for my farm layout??
Claaspower
Plywood for me all the way MDF is ok but I wouldn't like to do a layout on one if you're leaving it in a garage or a shed (moisture, dampness causes it to swell)
FarmingFarmer2468
Plywood for me all the way MDF is ok but I wouldn't like to do a layout on one if you're leaving it in a garage or a shed (moisture, dampness causes it to swell) OK. Thanks. Plywood it is then. Edited February 12, 2012 by RG110man
robertw1
I used MDF in my bedroom and it still bowed part of that was because to make the land I stuck cardboard to it in layers using a fare bit of watered down pva.
FarmingFarmer2468
I have got 2 boards of wood and all the bare essentials to get the farm up and running!
FarmingFarmer2468
Here are the boards. I have yet to put the final coat of loo paper on!
FarmingFarmer2468
For my layout I have coated it in a base layer of toilet paper and watered down pva glue. I did this so that no materials were going straight onto the wood. It also helps to create texture. I am going to use cardboard, toilet paper and pva glue to create hills and more texture. robertw1
Good work Ryan try to keep the boards flat when they are drying so they don't end up like mine!

FarmingFarmer2468
The boards started to bow in the middle as I did not have them drying on a flat surface, therefore I have layered down more loo paper and watered down pva glue on the sides to help it straiten back up. And i am pleased to say that it has worked!
FarmingFarmer2468
I have finished laying the pva glue and toilet paper and will get some pictures when they have dried!
FarmingFarmer2468
I have marked out parts of my farm on my layout and have begun to paint out the yard. When I have done that I will get some gravel to make texture.

Luke (DeWitt)
Nice tractor and baler, I am not too familiar with 1/50th farm models.
robertw1
No I don't know much about 1/50 scale either.
FarmingFarmer2468
I got 1/50 as I am currently limited for space and can fit more on my layout if I use a smaller scale.
