BC
The next rally I will be attending will be at Oldmeldrum next Sunday. It is not a huge rally but still manages to attract around 250 to 275 entries. Last year was a wash out and I did not even have an entry since it was a terrible seasons weather wise for the rallies. Entry to the rally is free for the spectating public. I have entered my 1941 Farmall A and the last time it was there was in 2000 the year I took my newly restored 1951 Farmall Cub as well. In addition my A's restoration was completed in 1987so it her 25th Anniversary so I thought time to have her out again. Lets home the sun shines for us or at least the rain stays away. BC
Started and loaded my Farmall A today. Need to give the plugs a clean, check fuel, oil and water levels and tyre pressures and give the brass bits a polish. The forecast at the show is going for the morning but light rain and sometimes heavy in the afternoon but hey ho I don't care so much about getting wet coming home from a show. Talking of 25th anniversaries I note both dad and me had this one and my Nuffield at the shows 25th rally in 1989. Some how 23 years on I don't think EY 7427 will be in the running for any prizes since well she is an older restoration now. I must get the power to my other shed done and complete...it was started more than 3 years ago. I must take a pattern and cut a new piece of board as well. BC
I had to have a wee pit stop at my folks at Kemnay today and dad was out to see if I could reverse in and be off the road before touching the fence...my thoughts were do you need to teach a duck to suck eggs...but I kept quiet...well for once ;D Anyway here I was at my second home of late on a lovely Saturday afternoon Dad was always the brass polisher before and at the rallys we used to go to over the past 30 odd years..sadly the past two years yes has not been fit to attend but today I asked if he wanted to clean the brass bits on my Farmall A and he was up and out with his stick. What a buzz to me and him,,,since he was all ways my second man at the show's Edited August 4, 2012 by BC
brianih634
Nice to see your dad out at the tractor Bill, I'm sure he gave it good check over and told you that you had missed or done something wrong :police: :)
BC
Yes I was fine pleased to see him still do his usual job Brain and surprisingly no comments you haven't done this or you haven't done that which was even better. Anyway perhaps his polishing of the brass bits did the trick since I won first prize in the Class 12(a) Agricultural tractors to 1950 and came home with the GVRS Tractor Challenge Shield which I was quite pleased at winning given the last time I took this tractor was 12 years ago in 2000 and won this shield and to win it 25 years after it was restored in 1987 was the icing on the cake...the old girl did me proud and started relatively easily as well which is always a plus point when starting hand cranked petrol paraffin tractors with a magneto. Being a numbers person I think she needs to go back to "Meldrum" in 2014 for the GVRS's 50th rally which I have attended since 1982 with tractors. In class 12b Agricultural tractors 1951 to 1987 was won by a Brian Gray from Methlick (any relation ) with his 1952 Ferguson TED20. He was a triple winner and went home with The Bob Linsay Trophy for the "Best Grey Ferguson Tractor" and also the GVRS Jubilee Trophy for the "Best 1952 Exhibit" ... so well done to Brian Gray2.com A few dozen pictures being uploaded to PB but come back tomorrow to see if your are interested in vintage rallies. brianih634
I'll be having a look at the pictures for sure Bill, well done on getting first prize, just shows your attention to detail in storing and transporting these machines pays off. Brian Gray from Methlick is no relation of mine at all, although I do know him, he is an electrician and we had a few jobs done by him when we stayed in Methlick. I did think if we were back from Aviemore in time that we would stop in past for a look, but we were not back to Oldmeldrum until half past four. Have the day off tomorrow for Turriff show, hope the weather holds out!!
BC
Thanks Brian I suppose storage in those old insulated sheds may help keep them. BrianGray2.com...a "sparky" well he isn't too bad at tractor restorations as well ...assuming he did it himself ..by 4.30 PM the raffle and prize giving was on and I was loaded up and on the road home by 5.20 pm. Did a pit stop at Kemnay and left car tractor and trailer there and melted my way home with a V Reg one owner 13 year old Corsa 1.2 16v which I'm taking for an MOT tomorrow. Done 97k miles but only 1.5k since last MOT so we will see what happens tomorrow. Its been a while since I have been to the Turra Show and it was always notoriously wet down in the "Haughs"...never mind mr softie is in attendance selling ice cream again so hopefully it is a nice day and he will do well. BC
Well I spent an very enjoyable day at Oldmeldrum yesterday and there was only a wee shower around 3pm which dampened the event but we managed to stay dry under the trees. I have been attending this show since 1982 and is one of the nicer and friendlier shows in the rally circuit. The show is run by local folk and there is no charge for spectators or exhibitors. In addition they still manage to give out a free program a little present and a £ 2.50 lunch voucher which was actually worth £ 3.50. I had a rather nice plate of mince tatties and skirlie and a large cup of coffee. Very very nice and the best skirlie I have tasted yet. How do the club make money...well club membership, a monthly 100 club and raffles and selling ice cream on the day. Anyway on with the show
BC
Pictures as taken on the day There are 21 winners on this shield and 2002 was cancelled due to the wet weather. I see I have won with this tractor in 1993 1995 1996 and 2000 and dad won with my MG2 in 2004. I must phone the chairman Mike Watt to see if I just get the engraver to put a small "shield" on the back since the front is kinda full up. And something for the tractor shed walls

BC
Well that's it from me from the Garioch 2012 rally. Always the 1st Sunday in August so the 49 th rally will be on Sunday 4 th August 2013. I was amazed at this polish the chap who has a auto valeting business. Can anyone make out the original writing under the polished up paint on this 1955 Ferguson TEF 20 Look at how the water beaded after the short rain shower that dampened th event ever so slightly around 3pm
