BC Posted January 11, 2013 Share Posted January 11, 2013 The Grampian Super ploughing match is scheduled to take place at Auldyoch Farm, Auchterless near Turriff in Aberdeenshire tomorrow Saturday 12th January 2013. BC Posted January 13, 2013 Author Share Posted January 13, 2013 Well the event went ahead despite being bitterly cold at the start and a snow shower the day improved and did not seem to deter the competitors doing some good looking ploughing despite the rather greasy sticky and clarty conditions. The match started at 10am and finished at 2 pm prompt. I did not stay to hear the final results since well that could have been at least 3.30 am and I decided I would read them in the local paper on Monday. My chosen victim to follow how to set up a feering was Gordon Hepburn from Elgin who used to work on a farm and he has ploughed in competiton's for over 30 years starting with reversible before switching to trailing. He too was not very pleased with his ploughing but it was covering well which looked to be fine looking soil with hardly a stone in sight. Steven Mitchell a member on here was demonstrating for his employers A M Philips. I never managed to get back and see your work Steven but I hope the vice grips worked and survived the day?? BC Posted January 13, 2013 Author Share Posted January 13, 2013 Neil Cruickshank from Newmill near Keith was plough with his 3 cylinder diesel powered Green Fordson and Sellar 's of Huntly trailing plough. BC Posted January 13, 2013 Author Share Posted January 13, 2013 Another younger competitor in the 2-Furrow reversible class was Andy Hepburn from Fisherie with his Ford 4000. I always think 4 times Scottish Reversible champion Dave Carnegie's NH T6050 looks a little odd on the narrow wheels but I heard a judge say he claims it the best ploughing tractor he has every used and I'm told he only uses this tractors for the ploughing matches. BC Posted January 13, 2013 Author Share Posted January 13, 2013 Now this next chap is fairly dedicated...up at 4am and ran his tractor and plough from near Fettercairn to the event and took him 2 and 3/4 hours. Mind you he told me at the Lower Deeside match he ran it to the Black Isle as Well and that is near Inverness which is circa 100 miles from the city of Aberdeen. Charlie MacDonald is third equal with 20 points in the league. Ross MacDonald is currently in second place behind Harvey with 37 points in the league. Well thats it from me from a rather sticky and dubbie 70 acre field at Auldyoch Farm near Auchterless. An enjoyable but tiring day walking about in the conditions and weather but I really enjoy getting outside and out and about at weekends. BC Posted January 13, 2013 Author Share Posted January 13, 2013 Thanks Pete...yes the 2850 is a very tidy tractor and he fairly gets around on it driving from Drumlithie to the Black Isle and home the same day for a local match on the Sunday. Usually he pulls his plough on a tandem axle trailer but yesterday he had a puncture and had to take it behind the tractor....a dedicated ploughman there I would say.
