Fraserburgh 23rd Annual Vintage Rally Sunday 1st June 2014

The 23rd Fraserburgh vintage rally takes place Leisure Centre on Sunday 1st June 2014. This rally has grown from humble beginnings in 1992 when I recall there were only about a half dozen tractors and I was there with my 1941 Farmall A. This year I have entered my 1951 Farmall Cub so I must go and get her checked over and going today or tomorrow.

On Friday I cleaned the plugs, checked fuel and oil and on the second crank she burst into life 8)

The day before I thought I had 6 volt battery problems (the battery is nearly 7 years old) but it was dirty terminals on both battery and tractor. I phoned the major motor factor in Aberdeen and they did not stock the 6 volt "501" but could order one for £ 150 + VAT = £ 180. Seems a bit steep given I got one in July 2007 for £ 61.78. Never mind I have a few "trade" contacts I can try ;D  ;D

Today I loaded up and put on the new front nose cover from last year. This is purely to save flies getting through the grill and on to the radiator plus stone chips. I could not remember the way I tied it on last year but I think this must be the best way so I took photos to remind me the way it was tied on when I load up at Fraserburgh for home late afternoon tomorrow ;D  ;D  Those Zuru straps I bought from Costco a few years ago are really good in comparison to the old fashioned "bungee" cords ...but I suppose they were good in their day ;D  ;D

Looking at the forecast for the "Broch" tomorrow it is dry and with reasonable temperatures so that is good and hopefully will attract the spectators.

It was a brilliant day weather wise Paul and I think I'm suffering the effects of the sun having failed to wear a cap or apply sun cream until after lunchtime. In addition I was as happy as a pig in the proverbial when I was placed second in the tractor class up to 1955 which had 25 entries. I never thought I was in with a shout given the old girl was restored 14 years ago 8)  Photos will be downloaded and uploaded to photobucket tonight but it will be tomorrow before they get posted at the earliest
