Dusty Dan
This is a farm that has been restored and is not occupied and at this time is closed to the public. It is near Sharpsburg, Maryland and is located on the Antietam National Battlefield Park, where one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War was fought, September 17, 1862. I have toured the battlefield and it is one of the best I have ever visited along with Gettysburg, which is just down the road from me.

Dusty Dan
I would have tried to get the barn in the above photo also, but there was a park police car parked in front of it and I didn’t think it would add to the photo.
Dusty Dan
I made another trip today to Antietam National Battlefield just above Sharpsburg, Maryland and took a few more photos. It was a lovely day. Hard to imagine that 23,000 soldiers killed, wounded or missing in just over twelve hours, September 17, 1862. Savage combat. The American Civil War, I read about it and visit different battlefields. In a nearby town I stopped at an old general store and bought this sign to hang in the garage. The National Park Service runs the battlefield and visitors center.
844john
Lovely photo's Corky, as you say It's hard to imagine such a beautiful place being the site of so much bloodshed and death. I've often thought that if battles were still fought in the same way today there would be fewer wars. One a more cheery note, I like your sign very much!
