Remits115
Thanks Doc, I think I will be the next owner. I really want to continue my dad's work. My dad has his peat in Germany, but he has only got peat for 6 years now. After that? we don't know yet. Maybe we can go to Canada, there is a lot of peat in Canada. I really love the Ford 8210's, and the trailers. The trailers are self-built trailers.
JC
I've not seen the trailers yet, I will look at them on farmphot later.
Deere-est
I love those tracked Terra-Gators Remi, smart machinery. Is it deep peat extraction you are doing? Next week I will start peat harvesting in New Zealand. I hope to get lot's of photo's to post here on Farmtoys.
Remits115
The terra gators are bad machines...We hire them, sometimes. It's cheaper to hire them. The man ho owns the Gators doesn't ask a lot of money. I went to New Zeeland 4 weeks ago, but we couldn't find any peat! I really look forward to see your pictures. I would really like to take a look in Canada, they do a lot of peat harvesting over there. Most people use machines which are to heavy for peat harvesting. That's a shame. Deere-est
The system here is to cultivate the peat, leave for a day then push into windrows with a 30ft blade. Then leave for a while. Then it is picked up with a conveyor on a tractor. Every tractor has dual wheels all round and the trailers have dual wheels or sometimes triple wheels. They only carry 6tonne though because otherwise they sink!!!!! I drove Terra-Gator 2104's with Tebbe spreaders - I loved them!!!!
Remits115
The owner of the Terra Gator treats them like ****! It's difficult for me to explain how we do it. In don't really know how to use the right words. We push the peat in one long row with 2 five meter blades (Komatsu D41P, 2x), 5 meters is about 15 ft I think. After that, we use the trailers to move the peat to one central point. Of course we also cultivate the peat. But we have to do a lot more then that of course, but i don't really know how to explane, sorry!
Deere-est
It sounds similar to the way it is done here Remit's.
Remits115
is there any reasen you don't use a bulldozer? I have only seen bulldozers @ work in our Area (Holland, Germany). I saw pictures of Canada a while ago, but they don't use bulldozers there either.
Deere-est
Probably the cost of the machine itself, or two of them. We have a Fendt which has a ditching machine on the back, when it is not doing the ditching it pushes a front mounted 30ft angled blade for pushing the peat into windrows. Remits115
A bulldozer does cost a lot! Our dozers are rather small. My dad told me that both de Komatsu's costed around 80.000 Euro's, that's about 160.000 NZ Dollars. That really surprised me!
