use a big screw or a big blunt drill bit, but make sure its blunt or dad will have a fit

Try an old rotary much spreader beaters? Or as PDC says a big screw or threaded bar? Or make one?

Especially when he has got that new drill grinder for christmas and is saving all his blunt drill bits for sharpening later

For a good auger    Use a spring and put a rod inside of it

i used a screw for my grain auger,  you can get some pretty big ones at b&q if you get to go there
