This one was done some time ago and i have thought about re posting the idea myself.

So as you beat me to it i'll give you my idea.

This rough idea has some approximation to reality because i know people who have done similar things.

I would specialise in equine and small holder work. Basic paddock care, fencing and landscaping. The type of equipment used for this work also lends itself to self drive hire, country side management, and maybe playing field / park maintenace.

Two tractors to start with an MF 5460 and 3655. Both are compact for their power and relativley simple to operate. A mini digger would also be in the fleet. Added to that would be basic mowing, spreading, paddock cleaning, hedge cutting, fencing equipment. A dump trailer would also be needed.

I would also look at small bale hay production for the horsey brigade. An MF 1800 in line baler would be the tool for the job. Particulary if land could be rented to produce my own hay for sale, as well as contracting for other people.

In reality starting out buying two new tractors would not be affordable. I would expect a second hand MF 390T or 399 would be a more likley purchase, and if buying new for this type of work one of the larger tractors by TYM or Kioti would be more likley, particulary if they were to be hired out.

start a contracting bussiness called r.b contracting

buy 2 tm's somthing like a 155 or a 165

and a tm175 on a 6-7 furrow plough

then buy a samson muckspreader

and a 14 ton tipper trailer

and a bobcat

and hire in a telehandler  :)

and go round all the chicken farms around here clearing the sheds using the bobby and cart it out and spread then plough it in  ;D

We ran a Renault Ceres 85s, a Ford 1910 4wd with Lewis power loader and the old Dexta.

Key operations were haylage for the horsey brigade using a Wolvo mini round baler and Wolvo wrapper.

Also did hedgetrimming with a Bomford Supertrim and hedgelaying and forestry.

It was bloody hard work - particularly the mini baling and wrapping - but an interesting form of contracting. I'll find some photos and scan them in for you. The mini baler looked hilarious behind some of the tractors I ran it on - Renault Ares 540, Ford 7810 III, TS115 SLE!

I did actually toy with the idea of doing this earlier this year having retired from another job after 30 years. I came to the conclution that it was a young mans game, and was too much hard work for someone aged 49 & three quarters. And it would now actually be nice to have so time with the family.

I was looking at starting with conservation work hedging, walling etc. which didn't need a great investment in kit.

Having done some very !!! rough fiqures it seemed to me the way to go would be to buy in implements as the work built up and they could be justified, but hire in a tractor as and when it was needed until such time as there was sufficent work to justify buying one, working on the premises the business got that far !!

I was a young man and it damn near killed me! Especially when the dexta threw it's exhaust into my lap while tearing down the main road from one job to another! The melted pyjama bottoms given to me by a chap in a house by the road are still on the exhaust!!
