ya looks like a taurus 60

would be a 3 cylinder,

would make a great restore, they did something MF couldn't, make 4wd 60hp and cab in the early 80's ha ha!

minitaurus was the cabless version

Extremely hard to find any older Samies (Same pronounced 'Sammy') in good order tin-work wise, suffered the same rust problem as the Fiats, rotted out after about 6 years from new, their cars suffered the problem as well, that's the trouble when you use recycled pet food cans and baked bean tins to make panels!

Is that true ?? good idea behind it if it is true bad reality tho

fiat figured it out adventually with zinc coating, SAME went to fibreglass ha ha!

lot of panels on these tractors used two thin sheets of steel folded to for panels, rolled corners etc, they generally rusted from the inside out.due to holes drilled or inperfect workmanship.......its a real shame because the rest of the tractor generally lasted

you can still get new panels for the older fiat 640's etc........they still build them new and refurbish them in india and bolt on turbos

The majority of the Same and Fiat tractors from the mid 70's to mid 80's that were new around this area rusted out very quickly, freind of mine bought a Fiat 880 new in the early 80's and the panels were hanging within 2 years, he traded it in because of that, also the exhaust pipe rusted out within 6 months.

Same and Fiat belong to the same parent company. I was told that the panels rusted out very quickly because of the poor quality of steel that Italy was importing, something to do with their poor economy that resulted from the last World War as it left the country more or less in a 'third world' state.

::) Fiat is CNH, owning NH and Case IH 8) While Same is SDF.. :)

But the 880 was an excellent tractor, was his an orange or a brown beast? 5 cylinder?

It was a 5 cylinder.  Sorry, did'nt mention that Same and Fiat USED to belong to the same company.

SAME was family owned and i thought it still was

FIAT is a division of the italian gov at one point, or still is,

i thought argo was also funded by the italian gov

the 880 had two engines, the 880 (4pot) and 880-5 (5pot) the 5 cylinder was considered gutless compared to the 4

FIAT is a huge company, they may not have a tractor bearing there name and colours but there presence in the AG industry is bigger then it ever was, the upper management of that company are very cleaver........so is argo group, those guys realised that branding is often better then the product itself

Interesting the 5 cyl was considered bad :o Only ever heard good things :-\

I do think it's nice that most people who buy a Case or NH forget that they're really buying a Fiat 8) 8) 8)

Looked in on my local Same dealers today to pick up some David Brown plough shares and asked the storeman if Same do any 'official' model tractors, he said he would find out.
