  • 2 weeks later...

Well Saturday was a terrible day of rain up in Aberdeen and given the amount of rain that had fallen since last Thursday I made the decision to take only my MG2 crawler down to Glamis for the show on Sunday. Here we are all loaded up and ready to go late Saturday afternoon. At least the crawler is covered in and won't get wet on the way down.

Misc120708026.jpg

There was no more rain overnight on Saturday and it was an early start for the 60 miles down to Glamis on the Sunday morning. The park was in remarkably good condition for the amount of rain there had been and I was slightly disappointed I didn't take the Farmall Cub down   :(

Never mind on with the show

First up the Best Overall Tractor in Concours went to father and son team of Sye and Mike Robertson from Montrose / Brechin with their 1960 Massey Ferguson 35.

Glamis2008052.jpg

There was an award for the Best Allis chalmers and this went to this little Allis B from the Robb family of Forfar

Glamis2008056.jpg

Next there was an award for the best 65 year old tractor and it went to this 1943 Ford Fergson 9 NAN

Glamis2008046.jpg

First in the American manufactured class was the 1938 Cockshutt hart parr 80 owned and restored by Raymond Smart from Leven and was a well deserved winner.

Glamis2008048.jpg

2nd in the American class went to David Symington of Strathkinness with his 1931 John Deere GP... no photo but you will see one in the Bon Accord Castle Fraser Steam rally event if you wish to view.

3rd in the American class went to the Harry Fergson from Whitburn with his 1952 International Farmall M

3rd in Fordson went to the Robb family of Forfar with their 1963 Fordson Super Dexta

Glamis2008039.jpg

On to the crawler class and this award is for Crawler over 12hp. only two in class and the winner was this unrestored 1941 Catterpillar D2 of Gordon Robertson of Dundee against the restored VF Fowlwer of the Smith's from Arbroath. A rather odd decision but the judges choice is final

Glamis2008047-1.jpg

On to the Ferguson Class and first went to the Robertsons again with their 1950 TE20 and trailer

Glamis2008055.jpg

On to the hotrticultural and ist went to Bill McBain of Alyth with his 1946 Gunsmith and trailer full of petunias.

Now then the Glenisla Classic vehicle Club decided to replicate Scripps of Aidensfield gargae... never saw Gina though :(

Glamis2008001.jpg

Early on and here we see the Arbroath smokies being set out.

Glamis2008035.jpg

Now I'm not really a vintage car person but the next one brings back memories to me. It's a 1948 Triumph 1800 Razor Edge Registration CRS 650 and my late grandfatehr was the second owner having purchased it in 1951 for around or over £ 1,000 and in cash. He died in 1969 and the car was never used until sold in 1978. I was tempted to buy it last year when it came up for sale but given grandad wasn't the original owner and the lack of space I decided against it. The owner was most disappointed since he though I just had to buy. It's interior and crome work is totally original but the car has had an engine overhaul and has been resprayed. It will never be a concours vehilce but having said that I kinda still have affections for it ;D ;D

Glamis2008038.jpg

Glamis2008037.jpg

Well thats it for me from the 34th Transport Extravaganza held at Glamis Castle. It was a fine sunny day and I certainly enjoyed my day ;D ;D

show looked real good there bill did alan and young alan only have one entry

No Pete they had the Fordson Rotpad as well as the Fowler VF but they were robbed of the prize in the crawler section. Loads of fellow exhibitors cast doubt on the judges decision but its final.

PS I mentioned I knew you... but did not know of you as pistol pete !!!!

Looks like it was a great day Bill......I was hauling silage through Forfar on Saturday and Sunday and saw a lot of the vehicles leaving as I was going up the A90 for the last load on Sunday night, passed the Bristol Lodekka being followed by a Leyland Leopard based Fife Scottish tow truck......

Shame Michaella's wee Dexta came third as it's a cracking wee tractor...... :)

Thanks for posting another fine selection of pics Bill. I enjoyed viewing them and especially liked the Bristol Lodekka tow truck conversion, Foden and ERF pics along with the fine selection of immaculate tractors.

I must say I fancy trying an Arbroath Smokie, they sound delicious :)

I take it you know the Robb's Mart.... I guess Michaella must be around your age  ??? ??? Yes it was a nice looking Dexta but even getting a placing a Glamis is quite and achievement since there is always a selection of good quality restorations in attendance. Having said that she was up against Ian Brown of Cres who is a NH tractor dealer and he had much older tractors which always tends to have the edge on the likes of Dexta's etc which are really a classic versus a vintage tractor. Here is a  photo of Ian's tractor which came second taken at the Fraserburgh rally earlier this year which he won the Scottish Champion of Champions with. Ironically the tractor which he won with at Glamis didn't even get a class placing at Fraserburgh  show and in fact I beat him getting a third with my 1941 International Cub. The thing is you can never never predict what a judge is looking for.

For a comparison here were the Class awards at the Fraserburgh Rally

1st Martin Stewart's Field Marshall Series 111

Misc030608038.jpg

2nd Ferguson TE20 & trailer from Mike and Sye Robertson of Brechin and Montrose

3rd place my 1951 International Farmall Cub

Glad you enjoyed Mark. Yes that Bristol had a cunning look to it  ;) ;)

The smokies were great or at least they have been in previous years...when I went back round the queue was horrendous and by the time I got back again the sign was up

FISH R FINNISHED WE R SOLED OUT  ;D ;D

Some great pictures there Bill looks like it was a good day.

Those smokies look very nice.

Was it r spink from Arbroath that did them?

It was a brilliant day Rob weather was great but it was a long one and was pretty tiring. Was down there and offloaded by 7am and was loaded back up and left at 6.30pm and home by 10 to 8. Yes it was Spink's who was doing the smokies in the traditional way. I just could not bear queueing to get and thought come back later and it will be quiet... but by then sold out. never mind always next year although I think he will be at the Scottish Vintage Tractor Club's rally at Scone Palace in September too.
