  1. Thought I'd share the recently photographed 'Vintage Harvest' piece from the above. Quite an incredible piece in terms of detail and extremely weighty but not to many people's tastes. If anything, good inspiration for a 1/32 diorama if you can machine the loader!

I'm still having issues, When I first launch my browser ( Brave ) I get a message saying " page cannot be found ", I have unread content set as one of my favourites, But when I click on the unread content everything comes up no problem,??

    Regards

    Joe.

Sounds like your browser may still be trying to find cache files of the forum located at the old location. Have refreshed or removed them joe?

  3. We have made changes to how our buying and selling system now works on the forum. We are asking that all members add their listings via the classifieds system. You can do this by clicking here.

It's a straight forward process of then completing the required fields relating to the item you are selling. Members have the option to even open their own 'shop/store' within the system which will show on the main forum page. You can enable your own shop by going into your profile settings and 'enabling member store'.

Once you have submitted an advert, it will automatically post a topic in this part of the forum. Adverts will continue to renew every 30 days.

If you have any questions, problems or feature requests, please post them within this topic.

There will shortly be an updated category for ebay listings.

Optional Steps for dealing with orders

If a member agrees to purchase an item, you can allocate the item to the member (within the listing). This will then show on that member's orders page.
You can also add shipping information so that member can also receive tracking info.

The developer has just told me FB recently changed their coding for embeds (yet again) so it'll transition through on next forum update, including total embedding of FB posts also. Will notify on the update page once its working again.

Hi Joe, I was tinkering to see why the link would not embed into the post. You tube seems to have no issue. FB shouldn't either.

That’ll be because we’re now located at farmtoysforum.com rather than /forum I think Sean. I’d done the same.

There has been some discussion recently on what some newer models from the likes of UH are making, here is proof that some golden oldies also still command good prices albeit in a mint condition.

I was watching it thinking that if it didn't make any more than £50 then I might have a bid, we are way beyond that now

Corgi's are commanding decent prices currently. This one is probably more desirable as it is hard to find with complete original tracks. Would not surprise me if it got to £200.

  9. Advanced Notice

The forum will be offline from this evening, Thursday 18th February, 6pm until Friday 19th February whilst we migrate to a new cloud based server. The migration will see increased reliability and better compatibility with new features being introduced in the coming weeks. Data up to 6pm will be carried over in the move.

  10. There was a minor server glitch I think Smithy which might explain that brief outage you saw. The Image top left as Gav says is a link to home but it's main purpose will be the forum logo. A new one at that as we make some changes to FTF for 2021. It's being tweaked to better display than current position though!

  11. Please accept my apologies on the recent outage. To put it simply. Some of FTF's DNA deep within the system from year's gone by inadvertently corrupted a fairly standard upgrade so needed a specialist to clean up the old mess and get us back. Should be fine now.

Just a footnote that we will be carrying out some other work to the forum in the coming weeks but should not result in downtime. I will try and warn in advance if it does!

  12. It's a bit of minefield but I suspect some rules and practices will change as the year moves on, especially for B2C transactions. There should not be any significant adverse additional charges for the customer in the UK or EU (from a VAT registered seller) albeit shipping costs have definitely increased and there may be a handling fee.

I think the main problem area are sales between private individuals including those attending shows to sell across the borders. They won't have the VAT registration as a means of reclaiming the tax paid. I'm sure a business attending a show can make a temporary import/export declaration and account for the  actual sales at their usual accounting dates throughout the year. Again though, paperwork for the seller will be essential and could be problematic (time consuming) if you get the wrong customs official at the border.

Out of interest Cyril or anyone in the ROI, how do the parcel motels work North of the Border? Are people moving to using these more now?

Keep in mind that all sellers that have an interest in dealing with anyone outside EU are supposed to withdraw "EU VAT" before British VAT applies, so the difference shouldn't be all that big. It all depends on the seller however.

This means you should receive an invoice "VAT Free" from EU and pay VAT upon arrival. You're not supposed to pay tax on taxes regardless of borders. Sellers can easily choose not to comply, but that's not how it's supposed to be working. I always ask that question, if they're registered for it and that I have to pay VAT upon import.

Btw. Nice touch with the postman claiming in the taxes :D That doesn't happen up here..

Edit: https://www.ecovis.com/global/vat-on-e-commerce-in-norway/ Here's a link on how this system works in Norway, don't know what the British system is called, but I'd expect it to function somewhat the same way - besides the fact that this places the responsibility on the sellers to register and report the VAT, not the postman :) No costs to it as I could see.. Just a bit of extra work I suppose.

That's exactly correct. From what we've been told, there shouldn't be any VAT on the supply from the vendor. From UK to EU, there shouldn't be any VAT within the transaction if that seller is VAT registered. From that the type of goods and value then dictate the fee at border. If the goods are 'used', that also makes a difference to something brand new.

I'd be interested to know the story with the E27N's.

Are they built using the original 70 year old tooling? just with the axle area of the mould modified? Surely they either haven't kept hold of the moulds for all that time, or they weren't in good enough nick to use for a production run of 7500 items.

Which would suggest they are new toolings... in which case why on earth make them so close to the original. Surely if you where making new tooling you'd go away and make a model that meets the same detail standards as the recent heritage range. To have an anniversary model and not demonstrate how the companies skills have moved on doesn't make much sense to me. Even if they kept the main casting and just put a new set of wheels and steering axle on it would be a significant improvement.

Equally why not use the tooling for the plinthed 8715 version? Was this a diecast or a resin model? Either way it was a much more realistic representation than this new release.

Maybe its just me, but if I wanted a heritage Britains item, I'd buy the vintage one, with actual heritage, not one that's just rolled of a production line thousands of miles away. Having said that I'll still be buying one or two of these releases because of the price

It'll be new tooling and copied on the original toy. We explored re-running their old TW tooling to re-produce the County that never was (in blue) in the early years of discussions with the then head of Britains, Craig Varley. He advised that most was lost or destroyed in the transitions between factories. We also provisionally planned to run the Ford Highway tractor Ltd Edition with the old Rear Dump Trailer as a special set but again, the lack of tooling for the latter ruled it out. Would have been a smart set mind you!

There seems to be a thing currently with re-running vintage issues with Dinky Toys being reproduced. These have proved to be pretty popular.

There used to be great dialogue with the company and for all the time he was complained about, Craig Varley was probably best one they've had since the early 00's. Both he and FTF members were instrumental in getting some great advancements in the Britains lines. Particularly the new rear hitch, the Internationals, Fords and classic Deeres. Rory Day played his part too. It's a different company now though, with good intentions, but looks to have a rather hazy approach to product development!
