  1. That's a hell of a complex, and you get any perks with the job like a free years pass
  2. It ended up being about 5 cm long, I have never had stitches. so it was a surprise for me, although I was lucky it wasn't the knee that's wat the man with the badge said in hospital, and lucky the week before I was using a chainsaw, when things are busy I can get carried away and tend to do everything at top speed therefore safety flies out of the window. I see you are digging out a swimming pool? is it a complete swimming complex?
  3. I agree roosters can get quiet violent against each other, hope you had a good vet It still f*cking hurt though
  4. Just though I would show you some lovely photo's while I was in hospital, hope no one was having breakfast when viewing.
  5. today i was working, cutting cauliflower seed from the stem with a petrol hedge trimmer, so that other workers can pick it up and put it into boxes. Next thing im pulling the trimmer out of my leg and on the way to the hospital, 20 stitches later and another appointment to make on monday to check the wound for infection and rotting dead flesh.
  6. I know wat your saying I wouldn't do anything else except farming, although a game keeper would be interesting
  7. I'll be throwing the biggest party ever when I finish, but my passing record hasn't been the best and I hate studying and definatly not A grade student but I just wanna finish it now even though I'll just end up a farmer I hope
  8. What really pleased me today, that i got my course advice to finish my Bacherlor in science, majoring in plant science and minoring in both plant protection and soil science. And in the first semester i will be taking these courses. ECOL 308 Ecology III: Advanced Ecology (15 Credits) We use a combination of field work, computer labs, reading, writing, and presentation exercises to obtain an understanding of current issues in theoretical ecology. You’ll gain skills in data collection and learn how to apply theoretical and quantitative ecological methods to the analysis and interpretation of plant and animal populations, communities and ecosystems. PLSC 320 Crop Science (15 Credits) This course covers major physiological processes involved in crop productivity. You’ll learn how the main environmental factors such as radiation, temperature and water influence crop growth and yield. We’ll also discuss the influence of crop development and harvest index on yield and you’ll be introduced to simulation modelling for crop production. As part of the practical aspect of the paper, you’ll engage with, and write a report about, one of our departmental research projects. HORT 214 Horticulture Production Systems (15 Credits) Horticulture is about managing plants for a purpose. We look at examples of particular horticultural plants and what practical considerations are taken into account when growing those plants for a purpose. We will consider the production of healthy fruits and vegetables. We also note how to propagate and grow environment-enhancing flowers, shrubs and trees. HORT 330 Fruit and Vegetable Science and Technology (15 Credits) Rational management of horticultural crops is based on the ever expanding body of research information. You will examine selected topics in the production of fruit and vegetable crops. These are chosen to reflect new directions based on recently published information. Topics examined in recent years include: light interception and canopy configurations; yield component responses in selected crops; maturity assessment; and the maintenance of fresh market products. These are just my elective classes, as most my subjects that are needed for the degree are offered later in the year.

  11. Haha classic, i i was your boss i would have done the same though I know wat you mean but i care more if there is a gooding looking bird after me
  12. Ive done the same thing but my parents were at it. First its a little awkward, but i dont think they ever realised i walked in on them wich ismore disturbing haha
  13. I am unsure if this has been done before, but thought it might create some interesting conversations and reading the unfortune of others can be very amusing. I shall start off. Me and the mrs are moving in together, im heading back to university which made my parents rather happy and she is starting a job. House hunting is been a bit of a pain as i am dutch and want the cheapest place possible, which is hard due to the earthquake situation in christchurch. My girlfriend is starting her job withing the next couple of days so she is staying with some family until we find something. So today i was over at her parents where she currently lives. I most likely will not see her for a week or so, therefore things were getting hot and heavy. Thought i had locked the door...Then there was a knock and the door opens only to hear the voice of her father "Put some clothes on dutch boy" i was butt naked, and rather exited. It was the most embarresing moment of my live, so far. I was unsure on how to face the family and her siblings, so i thought the right thing to say was they were all laughing and thought it was hillarious at what had happend so i said. "Well do you want grandchildren?" After that i made a rather quick escape to my house and opened a beer lighted a ciggaret and try to forget it They didnt seem to be bothered by it, but i know i wont hear the end of it for weeks. Sorry if i offended some people on the forum especially the younger members. Kind regards, Jan
  14. Yes i do niels. i spent 11 years in holland as a child, and immigrated to new zealand where i have now since christmas also lived 11 years. And yourself? Yes and that is why i like it, although i do miss working with stock and there is allot of handwork so it can kind of be crappy. And i was waiting for someone to mention the foden i had never herd of them until i worked there nice truck though
  15. Currenly i am working for a lilly grower. I have been mainly busy topping them, Using the following machine. Which bassically cuts of the buds before the flowering stage, This has to be done so that the energy which would go into growing the flower is put back into the bulb to grow larger which is required to grow good cut flowers for flower growers. I have done this 3 times so far, and currently we are doing the last by hand. You may wonder why not set the machine lower, as you notice the crop is tall and therefore lower leaves below the canopy will die off. so when cut to deep the minimum leave pairs on the stem could be reduced. You need 8 pairs for maximum growth of the plant . Also this cannot be done during hot days as the top leaves of the recently cut crop will be damaged due to the sun and therefore will die, but as you all know time is never your friend so even on the hot days i will be out there. On the top of my head i cant count around 23 different variaties.
  16. The farm also ran deer and fattening lambs
  17. A couple of foto's before i went to australia. Every crop was direct drilled. Except for the specialised seed crops. We used 4 drying trailers throughout harvest due to harvesting some high moisture content grains and seeds.
  18. River cottage cookbook, hoping it will have some nice small game and fish recipes
  19. http://www.dikvanderlinden.nl/tandemasser something like this. Thought since there isnt much orchard equipment around thoughtit would make a nice change
