With the weather still mostly holding out at the end of last month 95% of the drilling finished all be it a few acres here and there which are on wet clay ground being left as long as possible to get maximum drying conditions , a job for the 3 meter to do , straw being delivered to various customers and also at the Dairy unit now that all our own cows are on winter tmr , Smart agri just delivered our 2 hand pivot steer , nice tidy bit of kit and low houred , 1 at job unloading a load of nitrogen fertilizer which was ordered back at the beginning of October while the price was still relatively low , Hedge trimming picking up pace now , prob the 2nd trimmer going on next week as 8 customers already on the phone wanting us asap as some of last year's hedges got 2 years growth . Boys in the workshop still busy as new feeder wagon in for few alterations and fodder beet kit ready for a once over

Things down here at Orchard Farm busy as ever , with maize harvest nearly over for another year , just 45 acres left out of 1250 acres , potatoes finished up this week , with spud harvester and trailers back in the yard waiting for washing off , servicing then packing away for the winter , were now full pelt on drilling wheat , so far 650 acres drilled and 300 plus left to go in , plus 100 acres of oats , perfect conditions so drill operations in full flow ! Spreaders seem to out every single day over the last 2 weeks and all 4 fully booked for the next 10 days or so , all in yard ready for the off in the morning ! Down at Orchard dairy unit , all high yielders in by night , with low yielders still out night and day , young stock being fed silage bales out in fields while the weather still holding up saving up the straw for a long winter ahead !

With maize still a few days away and all the kale and turnips drilled and rolled in the workshops had a busy few days ,starting with the potato digger and spud trailers being serviced and sent out , Friday we got some digging underway , looks like it's going to be up and down harvest for the potatoes , every load being weighed in before going through the riddle and boxed up , some areas crop showing signs of scabbing and splitting , at least we've made a start and get into main crop later on , 1st year for a few where the dust has been flying out the back of the digger !! We've just got 35 acres of beans to harvest then we can finally put the combine back in the shed for this year .halfway through drilling rape which so far couldn't ask for better conditions , long may it continue , digestate being put on old grass grounds ready for ploughing and drilling

Start of September the hedgetrimmers on and trimming hedges around the stubble fields destined for kale and turnip crops for winter feed for the sheep , a total of 150 acres to go in , started drilling yesterday and rolling in straight behind . Wheat being loaded for sale as prices still holding at the minute , so decided to get rid of a few tonne now , Looking like maize is about 10 days away so next week foragers going through the workshop for servicing along with trailers ! Let's hope we can keep hold of the good conditions when maize harvesting gets underway

End of July update , cracking on through the wheats now , just a mere 800 acre left to do , all balers going flat out behind the combines , straw coming into the yard left ,right and centre , with the straw price still at all time high in this area anyway , we've made the decision to stock pile straw rather than sell straight off the field , with a continued demand throughout the winter it was important for us to keep all customers happy and try and make sure we've got enough at our disposal to fulfill customers needs ! We're injecting straight onto stubbles ready for ploughing and stubble cultivations for the start of the week , 75 acres pencilled in for grass sowing ready for rain forecast end of the week , with everything being flat out we've been down to collect the new JCB 419 from Smarts Agriculture , along with a hired in 6210r ! All hands to the pump

All wholecrop now finished , last week managed to get our teeth into the wheat , we've got through 200 acres before the rain started falling steadily last night , with more rain forecast for all day Sunday decided to bring the combine and header back to the yard . Every load being weighed in and tipped in pit 1 for cleaning process , after a few loads of not so clean corn coming in ! Full steam with the sprayer as well with attending to potatoes and the fodder beet , making life easier with the unimog in tow , with it being wet a chance to move the sheep around on to some more grass paddocks , looks like weather back to sun for next week so all go again !

Just a quick update , winter barley all in and baled up , baler off to bale some rape now , seems to be flat out as were a baler down for the minute ! halfway through the whole crop , just back in the yard for a service and addative top up before another 250 acres a few miles close to HQ , the boys just back from Highwood Agri with the 2 new SK trailers , which were ordered a few weeks back and they kindly got hold for us , looks to be a good strongly built trailer ,, soon to be put to the test by the trailer boys , Wheat looks to be only a couple of weeks away , in the meantime 150 acres of rape to munch on through !! We need some rain , arrghhh!!!!!!!

Well with all this great weather were cracking on through heaps of work , 1st time for years everything all going to plan ! , Well through 2nd cut solar for chopping , starting to move on making haylage for the 6 livery yards we deal with all year around , seems to be bale trailers flying in and out the yard every 5 minutes !! the combine making its way into the workshop for a look over , looks like we're going to be into the barley within the next 10 days , due the crop starting to dry off , especially in our heavier clay grounds .we've decided this is the last year for the krone chopper , so we're in discussions with ,Smarts Agriculture about another jd ,and Buglers about a NH fr and Redlynch over a possible return to a fendt !! Trying to sort something on demo ready for wholecrop at the end of next week !

Not had an update for a while !! Just started some 2nd cut silage after the 1st cuts came off very early . Were down to 1 forager with the krone being plagued by lots of niggles so the john Deere having to take upnthe extra work load , 1st cut in was around 1400 acres chopped , and 2 be cut were already in 250 acres !! The new 7310r on pit duties after arriving from smarts agriculture early last week , on the other hand the new valtra being hitches up for spraying duties alongside the unimog,with the cows on there paddock rotation grazing we've got some light dressing of AD liquid waste going on . Some more arrivals should be due soon with the ever increasing work loads , watch this space !!!!
