  1. Cheers Paul , yeah he came up well , just a few more bits to finish off , lights & mesh .No Kane trailers around here but a fair few redrocks ! Not too shabby for a £17 trailer !!
  2. Little update , maize drilling nearly all done and dusted , a mere 350 acres left to go in , so far the total we've drilled well over 1300 acres ! We've been on with the forager over the weekend just picking up little bits here and there , we were gonna go hard this week but at the minute just as all systems are about to go the weather decided to relieve itself and hasn't hardly stopped raining since Monday evening , so all silage equipment back in the yard !! With a bit of time on our hands today the 1st of the redrock 12 tonners has just made its way out of the workshop , after a total renovation job , with a bit of luck the 2 be one will be finished for next week , good couple of guys from a local farmer and 2 more handy additions !
  3. After the long wknd back to reality and the day to day work ! Walking around with our nutritionist this morning we've decided against cutting grass this week , the sugar levels not quite up there yet , with a better and warmer week forecast for next week were deciding to hang on a bit longer to maximise the end product , however the boys have been out to a few customers wanting to cut earlier to turn around for maize grounds , on that note we have gone on and the boys are powerharrowing in front of the drill , so far so good and things ticking on nicely ! Still got some stubbles to rip up so thats the next job for the fastrac
  4. Seems to vary around the country , we'd been drilling maize towards the end of April for 4 or 5 years now , the farm up the road has been been drilling for a week or more under plastic , but apparently they have got around 800 acres to go in !!!
  5. Cheers chaps , yeah ground coming up like slabs of concrete in some places !!
  6. Just a small update now things are gathering at a faster pace now at Orchard HQ , yesterday saw the last of spuds in the ground another job ticked off ! Today and probably for the next week ploughing ready for maize to go , gonna hold off on drilling for a tad longer just waiting on ground temps to rise , we found last year the later drilled stuff soon caught up with the earlier drilled stuff and with a few frosts supposed to be forecast for a couple days next week , a sensible decision to hold off a bit longer , giving the plough boys a good chance to get way ahead !!
  7. Cheers Sean , it's just real sandy soil that's been through a sieve a couple times
  8. Cracking week of weather behind us things are moving on at nice pace now , with 100 acres of spring barley drilled , and 50 acres of spring wheat in the ground , last job for the drill was 175 acres of peas & barley in the ground , time to put the drill to bed , with an influx of pidgeons hanging around the rollers were soon brought out and the decision was made to roll all spring crops ! Thursday potato planting commenced and the 1st of the potatoes were going in the ground by lunchtime ,only 70 acres going in so hopefully a job that won't take too long if we get no breakdowns in machines or weather !! The workshop in full flow getting ready machines for maize and silage season
  9. With a good week behind us and all the drilling of spring beans finished time now turning towards spring barley , most of the farms grass harrowing finished , attention being turned to the rollers ! With the fields drying out a chance to get the slew loaded and ready for the off on Monday morning to go around a mere 150 or so hours worth of draining the field ditches down on the lower side of the farm . Up the AD Plant the continuous job of getting rid of digestate and dirty water over some of the later cut silage grounds , just giving em that little extra , the fertaliser spinner now continuing to get over grass with nitrogen before starting to put a bit on the winter barley and winter wheat .
  10. He had a claas just above Godfreys drilling !!!!!
  11. Yeah only just though !! Never b that had i haven't had to hire in help while your own machines parked up !!
  12. Glad to see the neighbours pulling there fingers out !!!!!
  13. No worries , were all in the same boat on here !!
  14. When you got around 2000 acres of your own farms and a sizeable contracting outfit size is a necessity !!! But expensive , must keep the wheels turning Pete !!
  15. Finally a good week under our belts with every tractor out of the yard , the spreaders all finished at Oakley's and on to the next customer , both tankers still in full flow helping out at Rushywood Farm @ crewkerne , the new fastrac hitched up to 1 tanker and getting a thumbs up from the operator , keeping the staff happy !!! The boys have been out setting the umbilical up at Hill dairy ready for 2 weeks pumping and with the dry weather we managed get a few acres of spring beans in and get the grass harrows out on some grass grounds ,long may this weather window continue !

  21. Bit of up and down week so far this week due to the weather , Monday & Tuesday managed to get the fertaliser spreader out across 150 acres of wheat spreading some P & K where needed , weekdays rain brought and end to that for the rest of the week , the sprayer was hitched up ready to go across winter stubbles ,no joy there so far !! Yesterday with a wet day aswell decided to go down Smarts Agri and bring back the new forager , with the krone 1100 just going down the road a replacement was needed and at the right price , so a change back to green & yellow . The plough ventured out yesterday aswell and managed to Scrabble around for a few hours finding a few sticky spots in the process , at least the spreader boys managed to keep rolling over at Oakley's ,keep the pennies coming in !!! Roll on some good weather !
  22. Good to see these wheels are still moving , keep us updated !!!
