  1. Will, I believe that the card information has been cut from the back of Presentation Box set 9597 as I purchased a NP super major complete with implements as supplied in this set and with it came the info card, as per yours, for each implement. Like yours they were all cut out separately and also came with a "header" card, if this makes sense!

I'll try and dig them out and post a photo....................memory willing  ::)

Is that an SOS 5000, for your driver with one leg?

  2. Can all that be found in the Britains' books by various authors?

I think not, but stand to be corrected.

My information taken from trade catalogues, but a small dating error crept in  ::)  should read "deleted end of 1988"

Some interesting comments/information there ploughmaster, I did not know of the wheel colour variations or the pale blue version. More to seek out  :)

Didn't the early versions of the flat bed have a plain white cab?

  3. Young(er) people walking around, in a dream, peering down at the screen of their mobile 'phone, this is all a lot of the apprentices at work seem to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What about a tractor driver having his lunch, with either a mug of tea or a sandwich in his hand.

What other figures do you produce Mandy?

  4. They are all left hand drive. First released in 1981, with the green/green version being released in 1986 in a set(9631) with cattle, sheep, feed manger and animal pens. Deleted end of 1989.

The 1981 catalogue shows a mock up, I believe, with a red chassis, blue cab and flatbed.

The latter released Tarmac trucks were right hand drive, but still with an open left side window  ::)  I think!

  5. That is certainly the greatest total number of years production.  When posting the above, I had assumed the longest unbroken production run.

I did look at the Land Girl, but whilst the Shepherd had only a minor facelift in 1971 (the base and crook were altered, but the actual figure was virtually unchanged), the Land Girl, whilst similar to the previous one,  was a completely new sculpting from 1971 onward, so I felt she didn't count.

See what you mean, looks like she's has put on a bit of weight  ;D

Its a bit like Triggers  broom, 40 years old and only had three new heads and two new handles "same" broom though  ;)

For the figures, the 'Britains Herald Plastic Figures' book is a good read and reference for production run of years.

I was using the Peter Cole book

  6. Well I reckon its the lady with bucket as introduced with the shepherd in 1957 and still available today in a small boxed set (40954) with the farmer and his wife, 52 years and still going strong  :)

I thought it might be the tumbrel cart, as first introduced in 1922 as 4F up to 1941 (20 years) then from 1946 to 1973 (28 years) becoming 9505 in 1962 and 9567 in 1970 until its deletion at the end of 1973. Reintroduced in 1983 deleted end of 1984 (2 years). I make this 50 years in total so longer than the shepherd.

  7. There were two versions of the Great Book of Britains.  One was just the book itself, with no external packaging (other than the standard dust cover (which is what I have).  The other (much more expensive version) had an identical book, together with a special limited set of metal soldiers packed in a cardboard outer (of the same colour and design as the dust cover), but slightly taller than the book to accomodate the soldiers.

Should have asked this as well  ::)  does it cover all aspects of Britains models?

  8. I thought the old gate and its new counterpart were the same until I put them together for this picture.

Heres the Hurdles that CMB mentioned earlier Plastic and Lead versions (I must have broken all the loops off the plastic ones when i was little  ::)  )

Also some FG Taylor lead fencing that I have included in the picture, as I think its very nice.

Gates also come on a green base with wheel marks etc in. The posts had slots to take the post and rail fencing. Available in white and brown and also a sort of stained brown over a grey base moulding this last one being a very early release I believe. Diagonal braces being either one or two. Post and rail fencing available in the same colours.

Plastic loops on the hurdles are easily broken off as they have to be twisted through 90 degrees to insert the next post through due to the moulding process..........two piece mould I believe.

  9. Hi Sue, the Britains Civilian Toy Figures book by Norman Joplin et all has this listed at $450-$550 in mint boxed condition. Book published in 2002 so not that accurate now although I don't hold much faith in the prices therein............to cheap some of them, for over here, methinks  ;)

I hope this is of some help  :)

  10. Yep I have the ,dare I say it, more usual decal on the green trailer and this decal on the blue trailer, a very cheep eBay purchase................only bidder  ;D although someone offered to buy it from me after, at a profit to me of course  :o When I looked in the mirror It didn't say MUG on my forehead, so I declined the offer.

As regards value its worthless to you, so give me the details and I will save you the trouble of having to buy it  ;) ;) ;)

In all seriousness its value, to you, is what you are prepared to pay for it. Always a tricky subject. Go for it, you will only regret not buying it if you don't.

Super 6 on here has the green trailer, but I think his has the 'Tipping Trailer' decal, so that will make at least two of us envoius of you having both rare colour AND rare decal  ;)  :D

You and me both ploughmaster :)

Its funny two posts concerning the tipping trailer and both in green  ::)

  11. The only reference, Britains Civilian Toy Figures by Norman Joplin (and 3 others), to this that I can find relates to Rainbow Toys being a trade name used by Britains for second grade or "S" series figures issued post war. I think second grade relates to a limited paint colour scheme, but do not quote me  ::) . The only S series leaflets I have, S & P Crown and New Crown range to be strictly accurate, all relate to Cowboys and Indians and Soldiers, but the box artwork suggests animals were available, be they farm, as your set proves, or zoo

There are other boxes/artwork from/for this S series range without the Rainbow Toys legend.

What do you mean by B merk?

  12. The most interesting item on display, to me ;)

War surplus wheels and tyres and a frugal use of steel for chassis, axle and fittings as necessary

Who would bother lining out like this now? Nice to see it still has its handraulic screw tipping gear handle

    IMG_20090822_5383.jpg

Must have been hard work winding this up.........and down I suppose :o

    IMG_20090822_5381.jpg

Three registration numbers on this trailer and more of that lovely lining out
