  1. This'll make you laugh. One of Sussex Tractors customers had a 1200 and used it for contracting. He parked it up in his brothers shed with a five furrow Ransomes conventional plough on the back. Along comes his nephew, who had never driven one before, jumps on it, starts it up, lifts the plough, engages a gear, swings the steering on full lock, hears a loud bang and oops,, sorry dad I've made a big hole in the asbestos sheets on the side of the barn. [
  2. Typical of the tractors of its time, if it was well looked after it was a treat to drive. Sadly most of them weren't too well looked after and ended up with dangerous brakes and vague steering. Massey should have done what Muir Hill did and fitted a turbo'd 6354 as well, giving about 140-150 HP. I reckon that would have been near perfect for the size and weight of this tractor. 2000 series back end would have been good if it had been available. Massey certainly made some good looking kit long before other manufacturers ie the MF 500 Combine and later the 1200. Compare it to what else was available when it came out, Counties with Duncan (Elbow breaker) and Fritzmier cabs and Muir Hills with their horrible square cab/safety frame that looked like a shed perched on top of it. (Early 101 not the white sliding door version) I have a leaflet on the 1200, will try to post it later if it hasn't already been done. ;)
  3. Haven't seen a new Zetor for ages. Just had a thought; Skoda and Zetor were all part of the same group weren't they? Didn't VW take over Skoda's? If so, did VW buy the tractor factory too? Will we one day see Volkswagen tractors?
  4. Actually it annoyed me yesterday, but I'm still annoyed about it today . Went shopping in Brighton and couldn't get to our usual car park so we went into an NCP one in North street. Q'd for ages to get in and only just had enough headroom for my Ulysse to get in. Went shopping, had a great time, eyed up the totty, had a Mc Donalds and went back to the car park. Car park pay machine took credit cards to pay. Just as bloomin well, we'd been there less than three hours and the machine said amount owing, NINE POUNDS TEN COTTON PICKIN PENCE. :o > I was jolly cross. What a rip off; I only wanted to park there, not buy the bl**dy place. >
  5. Wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Just change the engine oil and try starting it. If it runs ok, make sure when you turn it off that you turn off the fuel tap if it has one. It may be that the carburettor float, shut off jet has allowed fuel past it when it's been standing. Only needs a minute amount of dirt under it to make it leak. If its a carburettor with a diaphragm to control fuel flow , ie like a chainsaw type carb, then the same applies or the diaphragm may be leaking. This sort of thing isn't unexpected with a machine that has been standing. I'll give you 10/10 for checking it though. Most people don't bother and wreck their engine. P.S. I amongst other things am a trained mechanic so trust me,
  6. Some ---- (Ladies front bottom) namely helmark18 from somewhere in America, sent me a spoof E mail to my E bay account. It looked ok but asked a stupid and confusing question, and not having seen one before, I clicked on the link and nothing happened. I clicked on the Item number and it asked me to sign in, again it all looked ok so I went ahead. It said the message originated from E bay but when I checked my mail in "My E bay"; there was no message. I had inadvertantly opened my computer to them to access all my account information. Luckily I have no bank or credit card details held on my computer. This morning I got another saying he wanted to be put on my preferred bidders list and wanted my paypal account details so he could make payments immediately for stuff he bought. I don't sell on E bay and don't have a paypal account so he didn't get very far with that one. I go to log into "My E bay" this morning and I started typing in my user name and under it is another name. Yeah, you've guessed it----- helmark18. What an a***hole. I've changed all my passwords today so he can whistle up his dirtbox for access to my account. Hopefully I wont fall for that again. IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBT ABOUT AN E MAIL ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS, FIRST CHECK MY MESSAGES IN MY E BAY. IF ITS NOT THERE THE MESSAGE IS A FAKE. FORWARD IT TO spoof@ebay.com. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CLICK ON THE LINK AND DO NOT ALTER OR ATTACH ANYTHING TO IT AS E BAYS FRAUD TEAM CANNOT DO ANYTHING WITH AN ALTERED MESSAGE
  7. Rained most of last night and some heavy showers during the day. Great for farmers as we don't normally start silaging etc till the 20th. Should help the maize crops and after the rain of the last few days there has been a noticable change in recently re-sown crops. The fields are starting to "Green up" quite noticably. Has been quite cold here too. (East Sussex)
  8. I'm sure you wouldn't have to look round all the time when you were driving it, no more than you would a normal mower. I spect body hair woman could probably rotate her head 180 degrees any way, possibly 270 degrees and extend her neck
  9. Hi chaps an girlies, Have a look in the October 2006 TRACTOR AND MACHINERY on page132. Lo and behold, theres one for sale. I knew I'd seen one recently. Maybe the geezers still got it. Marky-----MARKY------------WHERE ARE YOU. Go an buy it cos its not that far away from you an you got loadsa money. For those that haven't got the Mag, the listing is as follows:- BROTT 20 FLAIL MOWER, 1940's , with original sprung seat, no grass collection bag, otherwise all complete. Dry stored and unused for 12 years, Seventy five quid (Go on Marky you can afford that!! Maybe it's the one body hair woman owned ) Tel. 01794 322426, mobile, 07977 723902, e mail, len.king1@btopenworld.com (Hampshire)
  10. Oh my God Marky, do I detect from your post that you have the hots for retro woman. Wouldn't like to go out to her if it broke down, she looks like she could dismantle you with one arm tied behind her back. Take it from me, young man, they had lots of body hair in those days. Seriously folks, I expect it didn't sell as well as it should, probably because it would have been expensive to produce. I would imagine it worked very well. There are still some about I expect, and if they were as well built as they say then they should be restorable. Nice one Marky; you could modify one to side load and have a power operated chute. Maybe you could even fit a cab with air con and a CD player. Cor yeah, that would be great, wouldn't it?
  11. The- the -thats all folks as Bugs Bunny used to say
  12. Well . Mr. Ferguson, its a flail mower collector designed for cutting most types of grass. Apparently it will give a lawn type finish and has attachments to raise the cutting height to cut longer grass. It has a 20" cut and is 29" wide so it will go through gateways. Extra bags were available so you could deposit them full and put another on immediately. Electric start was available on the 7HP engine and it had a drive for a Tarpen hedge cutter. A trailer was also available to tow behind it if you wanted to blow the grass straight into it. It has a flail drum with blades that can be changed by unskilled labour and a four speed Albion gearbox with reverse and was driven along by a rear roller. Neat eh! The leaflet is about five pages so if I have time I will post it in the farm literature section
  13. These came out in about 1968. Could be this years answer to the silage shortage. Its a flail mower very similar to the Kidd in line forager. Leave your lawn for a few weeks and get your neighbours to do the same and there you have it, either zero graze your lawn or put the cuttings in the clamp. Seems a shame to waste it. There's a lot of grass verges around the towns and villages that could do with a trim. Seriously, if anyone wants to know more about this machine, there are about five pages of it that could be posted up if you wish. I've only ever seen a couple of these. They were the same colour as the bottom of the leaflet, sort of Terex green.
  14. Space hopper, two handles, look, no hands, no wonder it went bang, i spect when she got warmed up she was clearing the floor by about six feet. ;D :D
  15. 'kin cold and cloudy here all day, very windy too. Most people at the boot sale today packed up early because of the poor turnout and because they were all complaining about how cold it was.
  16. Went to a boot sale, froze me clangers off, found a Britains Cattle truck with the steering lever and tailgate missing. Had the side gates on it though so I asked him how much. He looked at me apologetically like I would probably tell him to poke it and said, "A quid". I didn't have the heart to haggle with him so I did my best to make it look as though I might be paying a bit over the top and skipped off happy as a lamb.
  17. The wind took the drivers door away from the chap in the car next to mine, and blew it into my cars passenger door leaving a dent and scrape in it. First bit of damage in the two years I've owned it. Luckily Mrs Will was sitting in it at the time so he couldn't walk away from it without saying anything about it. Hopefully most of it will polish out and can be straightened by one of the dent specialists. :'(
