  1. Nick. You lucky so-and-so. just the track gear is worth double that for spares. If it's diesel it has the 30D engine.
  2. MY copy arrived today. some very good articles again, nice one on tractor drivers, vehicle reveiw on the Corgi JCB LWB Landrover and Anglia service van, silage making for the larger Britains farm and Warner Hall on local authority services from Britains to mention but a few.
  3. Woke up to 4 inches of this today.
  4. The gold Fendt I believe was a special celebrating 25 years of the BASF chemical company. I seem to remember Siku did a couple of ltd ed models of them, one was a 414 and the other an 8??
  5. Heavy rain all day here yesterday and got colder as the day went on. This morning we have awoken to a light covering of snow and have had a couple light snow showers since. Don't reckon it will lay for long though as the sun is getting stronger. By the local forecast it's going to get milder again by Saturday.
  6. Hydraulic top-links are ok but I would not use one for ploughing on such undulating ground if you wanted to get the field back to level as using one of these would defeat the objective. If you set your plough correctly and plough at the right depth the draft control should do the rest. Plough slightly deeper on the higher points of the field and shallower on the lower and then when working down the ground you will move the deeper earth into the shallower parts thus leveling the ground.
  7. From memory, the early omes are screwed but were soon changed to the rivet so are few and far between. Drilling out the rivet or at lest drilling out the head is the only way. You need a pretty hard drill as the rivet is very hard. They don't comr out easily.
  8. You can get rid of wild oat by natural means as it is an annual and this means the plant only grows for one year and will never return. It's when it goes to seed that's the problem, In grain crops that are grown in continuation on the same ground it will ripen at the same time as the crop and will drop seed slightly earlier than the other grain. To get rid of it naturally you have to rotate your grain crop by grassing out the next year and grazing or cutting before the oat sets seed and drops preventing the next generation of plants. It may take several rotations back to grass to completely eradicate it but you will eventually.
  9. Looks to me as if in the process of making the bolt hole where it's breaking stress has been inflicted on the share and caused an undetected hairline fracture in the manufacturing process and the tip having a very small point of contact on the floor is exerting a tremendous amount of pressure to the point where the share is breaking. I can see no other logical reason, Faulty batch of shares ???
  10. Sounds to me like poor quality shares. Obviously a weakness in the casting or if they are steel, poor quality metal. If they're not worn very much, march them back to your supplier and demand better new ones, I expext they're pretty pricey, cast 12 inch general purpose shares for my 1968 David Brown plough are now £38 each.
  11. The pair of David Brown models are the first type red Selectamatic 770 and the white one is the first white Selectamatic that superseded it. They are both 1:32 scale, made in diecast and resin and are quite heavy. They come in their perspex display cases screwed to the base with the exhaust pipes wrapped up and placed under the models as they are too tall with the top on the case. Both these models are made to complement each other as a pair and just 125 of each have been made. Both these that I had come today are numbered 017 of 125. Made by a chap in France called Christian Gouel who trades under the name CG-Models. Anyone thinking of getting a pair, I warn you now, they are not cheap, 175 Euro's each but postage to U.K. is free (Parcel Force). They are a really good representation of both and the detail is excellent. the decaling is a bit European and the headlamps are a little too high on the white one. The steering columns are also a little too long making the steering wheel too high I can live with that. The grille panels are photo-etched, hydraulics are all there, although fixed, hydraulic quadrant, PTO lever and everything. Take a look at Christian's website, he does other interesting farm models as well. www.cg-models.com http://www.cg-models.com/
  12. Can't post any pics at present, reason explained elsewhere.
  13. Just aquired one of these and I must say that it is a terrific model, better I think than the previous versions. The model does have sidelights both front and rear on the mudguards and unlike the two Super 4's, does have a drawbar. Debateable wheather it's worth the £45. \
  14. The one I bought today was being offered at £95 but was discounted to me a tad. It is a very nice detailed model but there are a few issues with it. Firstly handling to extract from the inner styrene packing. It is wired like Britain's models from underneath to the swivel point of the back-actor so it won't come out unless you remove the twisted wire, best way to do this is turn the lot upsidedown before taking the top of the inner styrene off. To lift the model out of the bottom, hold on to the top middle of the back-actor arm central pivot with finger and thumb and with the other hand finger and thumb either side the tractor below the loader in front the cab. Be wary that the rams on the back-actor are very stiff to operate and need quite a bit of force to move them. The swinging action is very loose. Also take extreme care with the front loader bucket tipping catch. The potential problem with this is that the 'hook' is plastic and the styrene top fouls it as there is a couple of 'lumps' in the moulding and the larger rear lump contacts directly on the tipping hook and will break it off right in the middle. If the hook is ok when you remove the top part of the styrene, before you put it back on remove the plastic that is covering both the smaller front and larger rear lump and discard. Then reduce the 'height' of both these lumps by half by cutting them off, then the bucket tipping mechanism will not be fouled.
  15. I have'nt collected the quad trailers but I do have a blue one with yellow rack sides, so there's another type.
  16. Ertlrik. Here's the bobcat. All diecast except the inside of the open-front cab and the rear red engine cover, the wheels and ram cylinders.
  17. Newton Abbot toy fair today. Unboxed Britain's MF2680. Early one. Mint. Boxed Gamma Clark Bobcat Loader. 1:19 scale. UH JCB Major Loader Digger. UH Doe 130. UH Super Major. I and another member here had a good look at the new UH Big Bud in 1:16. A massive model with terrific amount of detail, comes in a box over 2 foot square but not quite ready to spend £245 on one yet.
  18. Farmer Ed and that chap that was by the middle wall as you go in that was there last time. Ed rang me today to say that he has booked as it's been a long winter and it's only 20 quid a table and too wet to go farming so he's having the day off from it!
  19. As stated. Doors open 10.30am. Anyone in the area going will be able to aquire the UH 'New Performance' Major, Doe 130, JCB Major Digger and other new stuff. Just thought that I would mention it.
  20. We didn't get the snow that was forecast last night thank goodness. Sunny today with brocken cloud and a fairly brisk cold North wind.
  21. Haven't had a lot to do with more modern tractors after the late 1980's as the further on in time you go after that most of them sound all the same to me. David Brown for me, a very distinct and unique sounding engines that you can distinguish for a fair distance before you even see them. The sound of the 3 cylinder D.B. engine had a very distinct purring whistle to the exhaust when engine revs were shut off and the tractors going downhill. This was due to the way the baffles were arranged in the silencer which you don't get in the modern replacements. I have an original exhaust on my 780 and it whistles beautifully.
  22. 34mm rain here today reducing the snow by 1/2, just got a foot left but now turned back to snow with blizzard conditions. I hate winter!
  23. The two lying cows and the bull are Timpo and the 'tractor driver', the large one in the foreground, is Benbros. Am still studying the others.
  24. Have not been for a few years now but if the weather is ok might go this year. Good show to go to find parts and stuff for real tractors and there's an auction on the Saturday. A few model dealers attend like G&M but like I say, more real tractor orientated. Good place to go to find brochures as well.
