When I were a lad .....

Starting the Fergie involved;

- Boiling up a big bucket of water. Carry up hill to where tractor is always parked. Pour water into radiator. Leave for three mins to warm up the block.

- Remove logs from under rear wheels.

- Close choke, set throttle at 3/4, select 6th gear.

- Make sure nothing was likely to come up the lane.

- Spray Ether into air manifold, release brakes.

- At about 10mph, take foot off clutch.

- Pray!

- Jump on clutch and brake pedals as soon as engine fired ( or before crashing into something)

The Fords, on the other hand, had a completely different process.

- Put key in ignition

- Put both gear levers in Neutral

- Turn key to "warm" position, hold, then turn to "start" position.

- and away she goes

;D
