BC
Sunday sees the annual Garioch Vehicle Restoration Society rally take place at the park the Oldmeldrum sports takes place in beside the tennis courts and bowling greens. The show is open free of charge to the public. I will be taking along my Farmall Cub and also a 19650's original unrestored Atco 2 stroke mower. Despite not charging the exhibitor or the public this show still manages to give the exhibitor a lunch ticket for a plate of mince and tatties and veg etc. If they can do this I don't see why the larger shows cannot do this as well since if it wasn't for the exhibitors there would be no show. Last night I put the charger on to the 6 volt battery since well at the shows the battery never really gets charged up for all the running the tractor actually does. It gets stated to get on and off the trailer at home then the same again on arrival then start for the parade and then start for load up and then start to off load at home. BC
Yesterday after lunch I loaded up my Atco 14 inch two stroke mower which dad has entered as a exhibit at Oldmeldrum. It a 14 inch blade and was made in 1954 / 1995 as one can tell from the serial plate 14 54 / 55 Just got the tractor loaded before the rain came on so left in gear and chocked and covered. I will have to rope first thing today and luckily the rain is not on at present ;) Yesterday evening it poured down
jsedelweiss
Do you think the mowers going to fall off
BC
Well I never leave anything to chance and will ensure I have an ultra secure load at all times. Neither mower or tractor moved on the 50 mile round trip which took 45 minutes each way and fuel consumption was still 29 MPG plus which is fairly good from a 2 litre 170 BHP motor ;)
BC
Well the rain stopped overnight in Drumoak and I was up and out and cover off at 6.30 am and got the tractor roped and all set to roll at around 7 am. Just as we arrived at Oldmledrum just before 7.45 am the drizzle started. I stopped at the Pavallion and was greeted by Mike Watt the Chairman and my first mission was to go to the changing rooms and get on the waterproofs and wellingtons before offloading and parking up in a field which I was assured was hard and downhill for the exit ;)
BC
The Garioch rally or "Meldrum" show is not a big one ...only around 250 entries with 11 entered tractors pre 1950 and 22 tractors post 1950 but is one of the nicest rallies on the North East of Scotland circuit. There are no exhibitor charges and no public charges yet they can still give you a hIgh quality printed program, a tiny flexi torch as a rally gift plus a £ 2.50 meal token which you could get plate of stovies and oatcake (no beetroot) but Heinz Tomato sauce was there ;D ...I detest beetroot Mince tatties and skirlie Shepards pie Curry and rice I had the stovies and although they looked darkish they were lovely...in fact a lot better than they looked ;)
BC
This beast was at yesterdays show but was a late entry and I never got a chance to speak to the two young lads that came with it. I can't make up my mind what it is... a ford 770 with a modified engine or what \ ??? There was also this Fordson major with a Ford D series lorry 6 cylinder engine

BC
There were not as many tractors in the pre 1950 class but first went to the the 1939 Case C from John Gunn and Sons from Wick was being exhibited by their plant and transport manager. A well deserved win but I'm unsure about the colour of the wheels. I'm sure I have seen this tractor before at Elgin in the late 1980's early 1990's and I need to sift back old photos and see if it was the same Caithness registration number. BC
There was drizzle and rain most of the day apart from a few blinks from the "haymaker" in the sky. i never did get out of waterproofs and wellington the whole day but at least I s dry. The show was brought to an early close due to the weather and when I went for car and trailer the field was a bitty muddy to say the least. Only one thing for it take aim for the gate and get up speed and go for it. Thankfully I got out on my own steam and I decided to shift the traffic cones and load up on the side road. Car and trailer was a bit messy and got a quick hose but will need to get a proper jet wash tonight.

BC
Last night I found an old 35mm photo of that Caithness Case reg SK 2521 when it was owned by the chap in the blue jersey. The photo was taken at the Elgin rally and I think it was either 1988 or 1989 some 21 or 22 years ago. I must email it to the Willie Kennedy at Gunns who came down to Meldrum with the re -restored Case.
nashmach
That Ford at the start looks like a bonnetless 8100 to me.
james f
That Ford at the start looks like a bonnetless 8100 to me. It does a bit but there's definitely something different about the frame supporting the engine, 8100s just had a plate running from bell housing to tombstone on each side. I wonder if its a New Holland engine shoehorned in there?

nick a
that is the right type of engine for a 8100 it is a 2700 series industrial ford engine not a a modern new holland engine, i agree the side frame looks odd but its a long while since i worked on an 8100. the six cllinder major is fitted with the old 590e or 6d thames trader engine, ford d series had ford 2700 series engines.
