robl12
Now I was wondering if someone could help me. Whilst out and about today I saw a Trailed forager direct cutting whole crop. They have several fields of grass cut and down ready to be picked up but never seen a trailed harvester doing whole crop has anyone else seen this or do it? archbarch
ive only seen pictures years ago but most manufacturers make or offer a direct-cut header for trailed foragers, i seem to remember Taarup offering such a header in the 80s. IH885XLMAN
was this whole crop header similar to a combine header as ive seen a tarrup by me working one behind a mx 135 direct chopping silage with quite a wide pickup header
SMurF
Were they cutting the whole field or was it possible that it could have been a zero grazing set up Seen these in the past this time of year \
massey man
i would say theyre using a direct cut for the wholecrop to save kncoking the heads on the wheat/barley off, mowing with an ordinary mower causes this a fair bit, drum mower woudl make a good job of it,most contractors around here work with 18foot disc heads on the self propelled
robl12
Thanks for the replies went and spoke to the farmer later on that night as they were still at it. They have a direct cut header for the trailed jf harvester being just a small farm and cutting all there own silage and not many others locally doing pit silage only have call for a trailed and was more cost effective to buy the direct cut header for a trailed than a self propelled. Lcal contractors don't do whole crop for the pit. Locally up to now have only seen whole crop done as bales. i would say theyre using a direct cut for the wholecrop to save kncoking the heads on the wheat/barley off, mowing with an ordinary mower causes this a fair bit, drum mower woudl make a good job of it,most contractors around here work with 18foot disc heads on the self propelled
