hi i am making a combineing scean to go along side my cultivating one and wold like to know what every one uses for grain in there trailers regards aaron

I just use proper grain, does look rather big in the trailers especially peas, but there's nothing more realistic than the real thing.

brushwood have just released some bags of grain that llok quite good

i use finely ground up cork from hornby as grain as it the right size and colour

Get some cat litter, the wooden pellet type, put in a container and add a little water, shake it up and let it dry looks good.

I was thinking of using kiln dried sand \ if I ever get round to do a harvest scene

i use very fine mdf dust

for cereals i use saw dust and for rape i use black scatter material for making roads and that on model railways and such

I tend to glue sand to a block of some sort and paint it, depending on the crop depends on how big the granules are.

i used brown ballast i got in a model shop it looks the right colour for grain

thanks claaspower what i did was used pollystering and stepped 3 bits on top of each other then i used pva and kitchen roll and pasted it over to make it more contoured and added the ballast when the pva was still wet then poured some loose down the trailer to give the bit at the back of the trailer

Would that Ballast be used by lads doing train layouts?

Just there's a lad here in Galway selling that type of stuff and I'm hoping to call to him at the weekend and I'd definetly get some of that if he had it.

Or does HLT sell it on here?

not sure if mandy sells it yes its for railways but it had no brand name on it ie like hornby it was just in a clear packet i got mine in belfast big bag would fill 2 trailers was £3.00 i first tried sand but it was not yellow enough if you have trouble getting it next time im in the shop i will get you some

That product would be okay, but if you wanted a real 'yellow' GreenScene make an excellent yellow scatter. I do stock the same stuff as Brushwood:
