As the title says,I've decided to start a thread on the goings on around the 330ha arable farm I work on for those interested in arable farming abroad.

I take a 10tonne load of barely every other week to the 1000 cow dairy farm next door, they run New Hollands and Fiats.

2nd picture is the kit used to fix a split in a hard hose (off a hose reel irrigator) basicly you clamp the hose then cut out the split part of hose once that's done what is realy just a big bacon slicer trims the ends of the hose to give a perfect edge once that's done a hot iron melts both sides before the hose ends are forced together under pressure once the pipe has called down the join is good as gold.

Any questions please ask. :)

The jobs good thanks Pat,got your room made up as well mate! ;)

There's not alot of kit here realy Barry, but I'm happy to get you a few snaps.

Spraying is the main job at the moment as the crops are growing fast through there growth stages. Here I'm spraying Twinax on late sown Sage spring wheat with the farms MF6470 dyna6 and 28mtr sprayer.

August sown min-tillage Onions are doing realy well as you can see by my hand. These are grown with a local root crop grower on a stubble to stubble contract much as you have in the UK and are a good brake crop for the wheat.

Using the T7070 to stop the Lateral from drifting while it pivots around 180 deg so it can water the other side of the irrigation lane.A chain between tractor and irrigator keeps the wheels running on the same wheel tracks each time to avoid running over more crop than needs be.

A picture for Barry,One of the few sheds left after the big earthquakes earlier in the year, not the best to keep kit in but you use what you've got until a new one is put up later next year.

For those unsure a lateral is a diesel powered irrigator that pulls a hose behind it.The farme is much like a center pivot exp it works up and down the paddocks rather than around and around. Each set of wheels has a small electric motor to move the irragtor along, the diesel motor on the cart runs a generator to provide the power.

Not as much as one would of thought Chris, have'nt got the smoke witch is odd as last time aussie went up in smoke in a bad way smoke/ash came to NZ.Most crops are all but finished now and we've had a good growing season till now so crop yields will be decent on the beter soil with irrigation. Were losing 8mm of water a day from the soil profile with the wind taking 1/2 that. All you can do is speed up the round(time taken before the irrigator is back in the same place)and try keep things alive,as crops like onions with shallow roots and that are sizing up there bulbs need a huge amount of water at this time of the year and are under stress. On the bright side it will save on drying the cereal crops down and there wont be ruts in the paddocks. My pets have taken to staying under the sprinkler.

Went for a bit of a moto cross ride with a friend of mine over the weekend.1st picture is of a worked paddock he owns next to the river, one of the big hydro power stations up river let it's lake empty out 1 hours drive up river witch resulted in the flood protection being washed out and a paddock full of these washed out areas were the river took the top soil with it.Lucky he hadn't worked the paddock any deeper.

The 2nd picture is of a friend of mines main tractor and irrigator, saddly he took his own life a few years ago and the land and kit is now rented from his wife by another local farmer.
