tractorboyjules1977
Love the drilling outfit Julian, what sort of output can the krone achieve in maize? Well Pat on a good day and all things going well ie, trailers & weather & crop conditions were putting through over a 100 + acres a day . A 700 krone on a neighbouring farm is averaging a 100ish , all be it there running on average 8or 9 trailers and 3 machines on the pit , a slightly better output than our old jaguar and fx 60 !! tractorboyjules1977
End of the working week and its full steam ahead on the maize harvest with the plough and cultivators following in close behind , The seed dressers have been in for a day dressing wheat seed , as fast as there dressing the bags are getting loaded and being sent out by the trailer load straight out to the drill , by the end of today we will have drilled over 150 acres this week so far , making the most of the perfect weather , long may it continue until the last of the wheat goes in !!! With all this going on potato digging has come to a halt for the time being and we haven't managed to shift no boxes out of our storage down to Alexs yet , a job for next week hopefully !!!!

tractorboyjules1977
A change in the weather and we've had to stop drilling , Gives us a chance up with some jobs we've been putting off the last week or so , this morning we've been loading up potato boxes destined to go down to Alexs cold store , With the potato digging now finished the digger back in the yard getting all power washed off and ready to be put away for the winter , Also the krone 1100 arrived back for a service after just finishing off 200 acres for Rob lane , now were on the last 300 acres of maize !!. The ploughs just come back in the workshop for a set of new points and I had the chance to go down to Buglers of beaminster to pick up our new joskin rear discharge , a deal put together by John lock too good to say no !! at least now were back up to 3 rear discharge spreaders , just a little dent in the cheque book !!!!
tractorboyjules1977
A new week same old story waiting on the weather ! With a good day yesterday and today the plough and the cultivator have been over to Hill farm for Donald Brown , working down some wheat stubble , and then back to our farm doing our stubble , the decision by this afternoon was to carry on ploughing to get the wet up on the top and try to dry it out before we even think about moving in with the drill !! Mean while Alexs boys have been on helping us with subsoiling and cultivating down at Jacobs farm and hauling potato boxes .. The umbilical getting booked up as everybody trys to get on grassgrounds before the winter sets in good and proper , Got our tanker on hauling out of the AD Plant on to some of our cow paddocks ,as most of the cows are now in for the winter .

tractorboyjules1977
2015 silaging season now officially finished for Orchard , with the last 70 acres finished off this morning and the foraging team making there way back to the yard , time to cleanoff the forager and park up the trailers for another season . In the yard time to hitch up the discs and try and dry out some seriously sticky ground before we pack the drill away . Friday saw us in the office most of the afternoon drawing up a deal to take on Chris Applins 500 acres down at kingsbury , including fishing rights for the ponds and the use of both there yards including the dairy unit , so watch this space for further developments over the next few months , back at base permission just gone through to build an extension onto the main machinery shed to make a good size purpose built workshop for the ever expanding business !! Good times ahead for a growing business

tractorboyjules1977
Really crappy weather the last 2 days and most machines parked in the yard so everybodys on yard duties . 1st job of the day was get the 416 back in the workshop for a well deserved service by Dave from Smarts Agri and a chance to take the wider wheels off and put her back on the narrow wheels , this was followed closely in the yard by washing off the krone1100 before she goes in the workshop for a complete overhaul after completing the maize harvest .Then finally in the wash bay was the 720 and the drilling outfit ready for a wash off and pack away . Meanwhile up at the arable unit 1 load of straw being loaded ready for tomorrow morning to be delivered up to Marks Barn . looks like yard jobs for the rest of the week according to the weather !

tractorboyjules1977
With constant crappy weather down here in deepest south somerset we decided to go off to Green farm to bring in the last of the dry cows for winter housing , just getting too wet for them to be out making a mess in the paddocks and a pain to get out across to feed them , now all livestock all indoors .Returning from Marks barn with the bale trailer after 2 trips loaded up with straw and another 2 loads booked in for the middle of next week . Also a trip down to Chapmans at Ludney farm to pick up a load of fodder beet which will be destined for the mixer wagon in due coarse , our beet still in the ground as waiting for ground conditions to improve hopefully .
tractorboyjules1977
Not too much going on around here at the minute just the usual sort of stuff with the umbilical ready to go off down to Godfreys at lopen , the dairy yard in full swing with the feeding duties and scraping duties 2 times a day . The last of the fodder beet came out yesterday with the help of Marks Barn newly aqquired beet harvester , so all 60 acres all safely put in the pit , Up at the AD plant the daily chore of filling up the wagon with ingredients . Things starting to slow down as we start to reorganize both sides of the businesses .
tractorboyjules1977
Still managing to keep most of the wheels in motion in a somewhat soggy somerset , Only sticking to the roads and the tracks at the minute as were finding it hard to travel on some grounds and not wanting to cut up customers grounds , with hedgecutting doing all road hedges while were waiting for some frosts to set in . The AD Plant ticking over with tractors going in and out daily taking out loads of digestate going down to Mr Godfrey at lopen and the odd load of dirty water . In the yard getting the slew ready to go out on Monday morning preparing 3000 metres of cow tracks for Mr Jeans up at cricket malerbie . tractorboyjules1977
Not too much happening out of the ordinary over the last week at Orchard , Just been hauling some 3rd cut silage back to the main dairy for mixing with cows rations of 2nd cut , so trying to eek out the length of the 1st cut silage . We are now nearing completion on the new extension to the workshop now giving us plenty of room to work and store more machinery making the whole operation more fruitful , just some more yard lighting and storage shelves to put in next week .

tractorboyjules1977
Just a skeleton crew running for the next few weeks into the new year with a couple chaps off on a deserved holiday and 1 chap gone over to the farm side for the winter on full time livestock duties , the fitters at full pelt pushing machines through for servicing and maintenance ,The hedgetrimmer is in for a sharpen up and service and the 6930 & 7430 both had a steam clean and just waiting for smarts agri to turn up for a winter service .With the heavy rain in the last week the phones ringing constant with customers wanting lagoons emptied so with reluctance team A have gone out to Churchills @ Chard , trying not to make a mess on the grass grounds , but getting the job done .
