Ford 5000

Janval

Question

I've got three old Britains skid units that I'm pondering what to do with. I've been thinking of doing a tandem and one County, or three different countys.

Problem is I'm struggling to find any good sources of information to base it on, which kind of Countys have been done with the 5000 skid, how the tandem is put together, measurements etc.

Anyone able to help?

Are they the old britains or new ones? Of it's old then is it 6x or 6y you have? There are a few options of Countys depending on if it's the x or y you have. For a tandem tractor your best option might be to contact Nigel Ford at Saledown, he should be able to supply you with all the parts you require to join them and is a very helpful and knowledgeable chap.

They're the old ones, didn't know there were several versions of them but I've added some photos here. Couldn't find any readable marks as I only have the chassis itself, marks are on the mudguards I think (?).

Some interesting ideas! 654/754/954 seems to be based on the 5000, also looked at the 1124 and 1004, byt they may have longer bonnets etc for all I know.

I do prefer to make all the parts myself tho, so a mix of 3D print and hand built parts.

654 used the 6x 5000, also called pre force or super major 5000.

944 used a 7000 skid so your bonnet will again be incorrect for that one.

954 1004 and 1124 used 5000 transmission and back end but fitted with a 6 cyl engine which is why you noticed the bonnet is longer.

Looking forward to seeing what you do decide to do.

A county 754 would be the most common one using those skid units, What about a county hi-clear or roadless 75 or something more ambitious, a mailam 5001 crawler or a Northrop 5004.

Do you by any chance have any specs for the mailam 5001? Tracks dimensions mostly
