What do you use for axles?

I'm looking to put some dual wheels on my siku jd 6920, I got told piano wire is a good thing to use? but i'm having trouble finding some locally and cant find any on the internet, (where and what do you use for your axles ?) this is my first time at converting any help would be greatfully recieved

silly me i only went to the local music shops ! i'll try and get to our local model shop tmw, i take it that it hasnt got a fancy name ! ha

Brass rod, just buy a selection of diameters

Piano wire needs a grinder to cut it, hacksaws, shears, clippers etc will be ruined trying to clip it...BEWARE.
