SPN
This week's Farmers' Journal has a feature on a Contractor in Co. Down who is running a Xerion 3300. [url=http://www.farmersjournal.ie/2007/0825/farmmanagement/machinery/equipment.shtml]High productivity with Class' Xerion The most recent addition to the fleet is two new machines from German manufacturer, Claas. A new 200 hp Axion tractor sits along side a more impressive unit, a Claas Xerion topping out at 330hp. The Xerion 3300 arrived on the farm in spring this year and features the new Claas cab that is set to feature on new foragers and combines from the Bad Saulgau and Harsewinkle factories respectively. Currently, the Xerion is mounted to a set of triple mower conditioners and has been returning impressive work rates in the right conditions. Operator Trevor Thompson, says that the best he has managed with the unit so far, is 27 acres in one hour. Prior to the arrival of the Xerion, which is believed to be only the second such machine running in the north, the firm used a second-hand Jaguar 860 forager converted to carry a triple mower combination. Roy Townley says that with the Jag 860 pushing out 420hp there was some apprehension whether or not the Xerion 3300 - with 330hp - would be up to the job. "We're impressed with how it runs the mower combination unit, and with the 50kph road speed, getting to and from a job takes less time than the older forager did,'' he says.
