  1. Ok so here's a selection of the photos I took yesterday at the show

1st up are the Lads n Lasses from the Ribble Valley, and the Stewart Sisters from Annan, Scotland.

The next part of the Ribble Valley Collection has a bit of a story with it. The Ribble Valley club does a lot of work for the Air Ambulance charity, and the lead models shown below were donated to Lynn Whitehead to display. The models were last played with in 1953, then they were wrapped up and not touched until this summer when Lynn opened the packages and discovered this lot - many of them still in their original boxes.

Next up we have Harold Powlton's collection of County's, and a couple of his conversions.

  2. Well we got back from Hull ok tonight. It was a great show. Very friendly people, and good venue for a 1st show. Congratulations to Phil - Starbrush - on organising the event, everything went well and the butty van was well stocked with brews and food! It was a very well attended show, with a steady flow of people throughout the day. I hope Phil does another show next year as he deserves to do well again. Pictures to follow tomorrow.

  4. well I'm going to try to attend this event.... anyone want to share a car from Cambridge upwards ???

(People who have bad breath or break wind a lot need not apply)

It'll be good to see some of you Southern lads up here, but remember what you said about going North Marky - should we get plenty of tissues in for the nose bleeds!?

  5. The Lakeland Model Farm & Construction Show is on Sunday 22nd November 2009, and it's a great day out! It is held at the Rheged Centre, Penrith, Cumbria, and organised by Harold Powlton http://www.rheged.com/ Just 2 minutes from junction 40 M6

The show will have at least 17 model dispays, covering farm, contruction and quarrying plus various themed collections from John Deere to road construction equipment in the 50's and 60's. There will also be 16 trade stands. I will update this topic later when I have a definite list of traders from Harold.

The centre itself is a brilliant place to go on a cold wet Sunday in November because it is entirely inside - underground actually - it is built into the hillside. Entry to the centre is free, as is the ample parking, and entry to the model show is just £4 (free for the under 12's) with all proceeds going to Kidney Research UK.

This show really is one for all the family as there are shops and a cafe in the centre, so a bit of Christmas shopping could be done as well - which might just keep those not so interested in models happy for a while, whilst us like-minded people are engrossed in the displays etc.

Harold has asked us to post this topic on his behalf, as it really is in a good cause.

  6. only really got to have a proper look at it near the end of the day once it got quiet,so taht speaks voloumes for it really, superb work i must say, so whats planned next to go with it mate

Hi Sean..thanks for the comments..the next stage is to get it onto a bigger board (4' x 2') with a dry stone wall perimeter and gated entrance - then I can get some tractors on it. So far I have got about 18" of the way with the walling.

  7. Everybody has a weakness Tris... and hot solder is mine!!

Thanks for all the comments folks..it was good to finally get it out of the house and on display, but I was a bit dubious how it would fair on the journey down - didn't do too bad though 'cos it just lost one door hanging and a corbel.

Toytrac '09 is a bit debatable at the moment, we will just have to see what happens later in the year with the work situation.

I am now sat back at the table with the tweezers and snips again - dry stone walling!

It was really good to meet everybody again - and I must say a very big THANK YOU to Roger & Val for making space for my building on their stand. Dad's Tractors really helped set it off.

ps...I think you all know now who is typing this now - his hands are busy with the tweezers

  8. Utterly gobsmacked. Even the electrics along the rafters look perfect. All that dirt and grime, grease and oil. . . it just makes for a superb refection of an old workshop.  8)

    What about figures, Prieser?

Hi Tris..undecided about figures - Hazel thinks that people would spoil it - Marie Celeste springs to mind!!

  9. The lights and shades on the buildings are made from flat plastruc cut into a circle, and then plastruc tubing slipped over the LED with the 2 wires coming out of the end. The domed top of the shade is made from a thicker piece of flat plastruc, drilled for the 2 wires and then stuck onto the end of the tube, it then needs filing to get the domed effect. The 2 wires are then bent and used as the fixings, the whole lot is then painted...
