  1. Ah lads, come one, Britains are alright, they ain't perfect but they're still the cheapest.... we can't have it all ways, they seem to be doing their best to get somewhere back to the standard of our childhoods so credit where credit's due.... All brands have their faults [personally I don't really like Siku, too 'toy' for me, too well built] but as we're all 'growed ups' [allegedly!] we've decided we would like them to be shelf models.... if we offered our 6 year old selves a current Britains and a UH, which do you think we'd choose.... really.....? rose tinted specs 'n all that.....
  2. It's got 2 chances! Just leave the ends empty and you should be OK, I'd be more worried about moving it round on a bank loaded than chucking the muck out, all it's doing is turning a shaft inside a pile of muck, if you leave the ends open it should be able to get going well...
  3. That was a cool looking thing! We had lime spread by SG Deakins and they used a big Amazone spreader similar to the UH one, on the back of a 718 or something or other.... So if it's limespreading you're doing, you should be spot on with that mate....
  4. Stop rolling up your sleeves and taping your knuckles Jeremy...!!
  5. I think it looks quite cool, and if you actually look closely at the photograph you'll see that the bonnet has had black paint / vinyl applied to it in the profile of the current 30 series vent grilles... you can see that the shape of the vent grilles differs greatly from the first glance impression you get of an oddly styled 30 series... The front grille sweeps down from a point at the top.... Lots of comments similar to those made about Chris Bangle's styling of the BMW range a few years ago, but time has proved that to keep at the top of your game you have to be progressive, lightly warming over your existing products will very quickly lead to you getting left behind.... [Audi?] So, I reckon all the nay saying Deere fans will soon change their tune when it finally hits a field near you and you'll all be falling over yourself to drive one... [Not me though, Basildon through and through ]
  6. Judging by the fact the weights are haning out of the usual place, it looks a lot like a case of 'mine's bigger than yours'...!! Is there a bit of extra cooling in there Rick? can't be anything else surely...
  7. Always the voice of reason James... That or just another delusional episode For what it's worth, I'm done spanking Britains, they've scored plenty of won goals but even if you look at what many rate as rubbish, it always has redeeming features.... Ford 5000... awful hitch and non steering axle, but nice base casting and accurate enough for most (me included).... 2266 combine or whatever it was.... about as basic as can be but who else made a mid sized combine of the sort we'd see in the UK at the time...?

    Plough query

Thanks Ricky.... No, what I meant was that on a SM the transport wheel mounted to the rear is wider and mounted such that the furrows are suspended from the beam, effectively negating any effects of draught from the rear of the plough on the tractor.... on a mounted plough, many depth wheels are on the side of the beam [although there are also plenty with it mounted on the end of the beam too..] but they do less to override the effects of draught on the tractor... Just a theory of course....
  11. Yay! Anarchy in the UK!!! C'mon, let's stick it to the man!   Oh, by the way, Sascha, you ain't taking my picture... god knows what you could do with it... it could be enough to take down the national grid.... in fact, I don't trust him.... what's he want to come here taking photos for? Lock down the borders... he's not coming in....bloody terrorist!!!

    Plough query

I imagine it has something to do with draught as well, a semi mounted plough is very easy to control, set the depth / transport wheel on the back and you're off.... fully mounted ploughs just take a bit more pulling.... I found ploughing with a semi-mounted plough to be ridiculously easy, no worrying about maintaining your depths or tweaking the draught control, just set it up at the start of the field and keep going....
  13. Do you mean best investment or best executed models...? Investment wise, I get the impression that the FTF models are building an international reputation similar to the LCN models so any FTF model will be a good investment. Detail wise, look at anything DBP does for the forum, or not, none of Dave's stuff is huge run anyway and all of it is about as close to toy tractor heaven as you can get.... the continental brands will no doubt churn out the 'limited editions' again but I think they're a bit Marmitey... they don't do anything for me but many go mad for them... If there is a 'best' limited edition model my money would be on it being something from DBP for FTF, detail and uniqueness.... enjoy it while you own it, enjoy it when you sell it.... win/win!
  14. Don't anyone dare repeat this, but I could actually get quite excited about a 3000 series...
  15. Did he say when any of these would be on general release...?
  16. Oops.... and they let you out? I'd have found a nice quiet little room with no windows in for you, since you were there already...
  17. Malvern isn't much further, another 20 minutes to the showground or so....
  18. It's about 20 minutes / half hour beyond Bristol.... traffic ought to be good for you though....
