  1. Yes shocking Jez it was the regular driver and a young chap according to my mate
  2. Was speaking to a chap who works on the neighbouring farm to us in the pub last night and he asked if I'd heard about the mishap on their other farm 35 miles away......they have a new Lexion 600 there with V1200 vario header (12m), lad driving it undoes all the drives and hoses on the header and unlatches it ready to drop it onto the trolley which is on the other side of the field proceeds to drive across to it only hits a bump on route and loses the header causing massive damage in the process.....about £20k apparently, the latest is that it may now be uneconomic to repair in case there any hidden damage so a new header may be needed at £60k :of
  3. Had the morning off after a hectic week at work then went in to work to clear the last few spring barley bales off the field that we didn't need for the ammonia treated straw stack and then cultivate 20 acres of spring barley stubble with the 6910 and Terra-Disc. Off to the pub in a little while for well deserved drink ;D

    Grain hauling

John Deere 2058 with 18' header, one tractor and 14t trailer on barley and OSR usually unless a good crop on one of the further fields, same for wheat on the close fields and two tractors and 14t trailers on the further ones, still only one driver, distances anything from 100m to 2.5 miles from store on both farms that we do
  5. I believe its mickheff89 that you want Pete http://www.farmtoysforum.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1569
  6. Glad I could help, with the exception of a few months I've been insuring with them since I was 20 and now have my Discovery, guns, household contents and Buster insured with them. The best bit is being able to speak to the same person in a local office each time who knows what they are talking about.........not someone in Pakistan who refers to a Land Rover Defender as a Transit van!!!!! ;D
  7. I was just thinking the same Mike, they don't look the right sort of bulb shape for the ornamental Allium flowers to me but could be wrong http://www.allotment.org.uk/vegetable/onion-shallot/growing-shallots.php
  8. Have you tried NFU for insurance? I've always found them to be quite reasonable for 4x4/commercial insurance, been with them for several years now
  9. Taken a couple of days holiday as its wet while workmen fit new windows and make good the mess created in the process, got to love older houses with internally fitted windows
  10. Here's 3 pictures I took yesterday evening from the pilots seat of our JD 2058 while cutting the rape
  11. Harvest finally started for us today, we managed to miss the rain here yesterday unlike places 6 miles away which got flooded Started cutting our OSR mid afternoon and by 7.30pm had knocked 20 acres down, looks to be running quite well too, just a shame I'm having to leave waist high stubble (Tris would get lost in it ) as the stalks are so green still, daren't leave it any longer as we could lose it so one of the lads is on the topper tomorrow. Will get some pictures as and when I can
  12. I actually thought the point of a salesmen was to sell the customer what he asked for not what he thought he could get away with to get the sale, in the case of my plough we'd asked for a straight 5 furrow hydraulic vari-width capable of going up to 6 in the future......we were quoted for that by all dealers bar one who tried us for a 4 + 1 plough from the next range down to what we'd asked for so having a smaller beam size making a 4 + 1 + 1 seem a recipe for disaster if we went down that road in the future and that was on their third attempt of quoting for what we wanted suffice to say he was ruled out of the deal despite his plough being one of the favourites
  13. Thats not normally the case until you get it down to a choice of a couple however one or two local salesmen can be very pushy and agressive with their techniques when it gets to that stage. What annoys me is when they keep coming back with lower prices, it should be their best price first and no messing about. A certain one has been known to alter the spec of the item slightly to improve the price and get the deal......didn't work with my plough as we noticed what he'd done, I'm sure one of our other Norfolk members will know exactly who I mean as well
  14. hmmmmmmm lets see your's is a self propelled Sands which would have a completely different set up and no forces acting on it from the tracking drawbar, we are constantly fiddling with the boom levelling on ours as it has no form of auto levelling on it at all only manual adjustment whereas I know the last Sands I had anything to do with had it in some form as standard, don't forget we have spuds as well, watching my boss the other morning he was having to lift the booms right up to get round the ends and corners without damaging anything then letting them down and levelling them when on the straight again
  15. The 6810 has 8280 hours on it and the 6910 has 7250 hours on it
  16. The 6810 and 6910 are all good other than age related wear and tear, both need a 3 point hitch rock shaft, 6910 is in fact getting that done later this week along with the front axle pins and bushes and the 6810 will probably not ever have it done unless it fails as it doesn't do much hitch work these days but it does need the track rods looking at. That leaves the 6420s which has an untraceable vibration on it somewhere that is suspected to be engine related and we all know about my 6920s
  17. For the most part we've had no problems with it and its speeded up the spraying operation no end, we've had a couple of minor issues with it during the spring and one over the weekend with the diaphrams in it not liking some of the chemicals we use so we've put the higher grade ones in now. I do wish we'd had auto boom levelling on it though as its a pain in the ass at times
  18. Heres a few pictures I took of the bossman spraying the spuds for blight this morning while I was waiting to pull the irritator back onto the field after a couple of minor repairs to the gun frame. They are now starting their 4th pass of 25mm of water on this field which at present looks like it could be its last as the pump is starting to cut out due to low water levels in the bore.........we've abstracted around 40,000 cubic metres of water in the past 3 weeks :of The maximum amount of water we are allowed to put on a season is 150mm but its not looking like we'll do that this year
  19. They're off the list Sean, we want a cvt transmission again due to the potato harvesting The Axion was nice Blake but just too bulky for what we want it for and the turning circle is poor when put in to 72" track width. Unfortunatelt the cvt Arion coming out this year will be too small for us at 150hp
  20. Speak to a few people who have 30 series locally here and you'll hear a different story.......exploding turbo's, head gaskets, egr faults, transmission problems, overheating engines.......once bitten and all that
  21. I had the New Holland for a week back in the spring but a couple of days is the norm these days a lot of the time, especially if there is a waiting list for demo's. Personally I aren't that bothered about the Deutz as looking at the brochure I can see a few things I don't like on it already
  22. Yeah it does and once its gone its hard to get it back, we'd love to grow more spuds as things progress so we need to keep hold of the licence as it is now
  23. I'd agree with you there Will, those old MX's were a damn good tractor with the engine note to match, you could hear our old MX150 ploughing from the other side of the farm, had her opened up to MX170 power levels
  24. Well the no JD thing comes down to the amount of problems mine has been, when it broke down last week (same problem as back in April!!!!)my boss said its got to go and it won't be a JD in its place. I'm looking forward to the MF demo I have to say as i think they've come on a long way since the last heap of red scrap I drove (6150), the Valtra demo was my doing, I had a look round one at the Norfolk show and was impressed with it and the build quality of it
