  1. Star eh, bertie watterson...............I`m not sure but I have a feeling it wasn`t all as it seemed there with their demise and eventual take over/buy out.
  2. robert the bruce put it very eloquently......if at first you dont succeed, try, try , try again............... sorry I am no more help but if you get it wrong , you`ll get it right next time
  3. Sadly here I doubt this is the last we`ll see of firms having to do this ............................... can I just add a wee thought............livestock prices have never been so high round here but my costs have never been so high either, rents are rocketing......everything is all out of step.too many folks taking a cut off what is our money..its made round to go round .........farmers are notorious for spending money IF THEY HAVE IT, this is well known and has been the case for generations. single farm payment cheques wont arrive for a few months, I know my bank account is almost empty at the end of each month when I have the bills paid...this isnt a good time of year to be spendin money . i can sympathise with the redrock company and can only hope this good firm isnt long til its back to full swing albeit in perhaps a different shape, we may all have to change to survive this global downturn. I wonder when govts, the general public etc will finally come to realise how many families and ancilliary businesses actually rely on a strong farming sector.Think too about all the community benefits of having folks living and working in the countryside who love it and know HOW to look after it. If this is allowed to fall by the wayside....well need I say more......
  4. hanging`s too good for the ratbag..........all my best too....I had a friend had her drink spiked in castle douglas, her brothers went mad........she was ill for a good few days too but its the after effects, the pschycological stuff that takes time to deal with for you too Rob , let`s not forget that,so all the best to you both and as has been said here`s to a speedy recovery
  5. Again this is only" second hand " the guy I spoke to is good pals with one of the staff at PV Dobson near penrith and he had been saying not that long ago the price difference of Fendt compared to others was now taking it`s toll on sales despite what he says of them bein one of the best around. I thought folks might be looking to more than just bottom line price but it seems not ( I know of 7 new New Hollands in my area coming onto farms in the last month) He was working with Lloyds and Johnstons ( Ford New Holland and John Deere respectively) for a spell and he said compared to the others Fendt were good and always on the phone when parts were ordered to see if it had been damaged or broken worn out or why was this part being ordered etc etc etc. All makes have some problems with many due to dodgy operators ahem ! and my guess this will continue with the more electronics and computers they stick in them nowadays . modified to to spelling mistakes all over !!!!! thick fingers and lack of sleep \
  6. no collection here. I too sample the odd drop but the good stuff is wasted on me. We had a guy that owned the local hotel in town who had a massive collection for sale bgehind his bar , I forget but there were numerous members of his " twa hunner club" members who had sampled over 200 varieties ( bit self explanatory that one)......I`m sure but not certain,he had over 300 varieties...... some of the island malts are very interesting. The old couple who bought the cottage on the farm back in late `83 came to retire ( he was the vet ) round the Uists and the small islands that way, Barra, Benbecula ,the monarch isles etc......he once told us a story about going to blood test cattle for brucellosis to one of the islands, anyway he got there and the pens were a shambles not capable of holding cattle so he lost the plot, told them to get them sorted as he`d be back the next time the tides allowed which was to be the following week..He duly returned to find them all drunk the work less than half done and no cattle gathered in.....they`d found some of the bottles off the whisky galore boat , the politician buried in the sands where they were to put in their new posts. She told us that this happened as some of the young folks went away to the war or national service or whatever and never returned......the bottles apparently still turn up from time to time.they had an empty bottle which I have seen but after they died and we were clearing the house, I never saw it so who knoiws what happened to it. I was gonna say one new year we went to visit a friend ......he never had any beer in his house ,only lemonade or whisky , he used to say och you`ll manage a wee dram.I`d take a wee dram but discovered it was easier to get down if I took it neat. I stopped asking for water in this and took it neat......he eventually started giving me glass fulls of neat whisky. I got used to it and don`t mind it at all now. This particular new year we had emptied one perhaps quarter full bottle and as I had a driver that night , my now wife, he said i`m goin to open another and we drank (mostly me) almost half of that too...I got up to come home and felt no ill effects , didnt feel drunk or anything................scary stuff as I felt capable of driving. You wouldn`t have known I`d had a drink ............that time really made me think about how easy it would be to have driven and perhaps killed somebody......I never drink and drive, wont even have one.Ive seen the results, have lost a few friends over the years too. sorry I`m a bit off topic but I suppose at least it`s all whisky related !
  7. with that front grill..............could be one of those IMT`s eh? certainly different
  8. thinking out loud again here (yes thats what the noise is ) I`m reckoning there are other makers doing plenty good implements nowadays,........UH, AGRAR etc . Yes it would be nice to see some britains sorry RC2 Ertl kit but so be it and I agree with other posters , if we don`t like , we don`t buy............I`m sure plenty others will.....
  9. one of these days I`ll get to one of these shows, maybe even lakeland would only be a couple of hours drive for me..............we`ll see. The reason for my post........ In August following on from our local gala week I was approached by some of the local development initiative folks to see if I would supply their small kiosk with plants as they have lots of folks coming in asking for them, I agreed and have been doing so since then, the shop is due to shut for the winter shortly so that cuts off another source of income which with a house to do up has been very handy. For our wedding we asked could folks please not buy us any presents but if they desired, would they please give us a small donation for charity, we chose the british heart foundation and Marie Curie in memory of both our mum`s. We got donations for over £2900 quid. I`m rambling on here but I`d like to give you one of my week`s kiosk plant sales envelopes to add to your charity fund......the one I picked up last week just so happens had £30 in it so if someone would be so kind as to tell me where to send a cheque and who to make it out to, I`ll write one out for £30 and send it to them. thanks , john
  10. I have to agree even being a red fan it is nice to see these very popular older style tractors being made and to what seems to me to a very high standard............congratulations again Steve and karen ........all good wishes to you in this new venture. I for one am really looking forward to seeing what`s next in the pipeline.
  11. yes Tris, sad but true ................since Alison moved in here, saw how much "junk" :o models etc to you and me , my model collecting may well be over for life! :'( :'( :'( :'(
  12. Ive missed this topic, .......................... all I can add is now I see this , I remember seeing them in the dealers, with no way I could afford them, not that I can remember exactly how much they were,so didnt think anything more of them. They must have been a lot more than pocket money amount however. nice to see them again
  13. based on what we have seen from IMBER today congrats Steve and Karen by the way , no need for Britains Ertl to produce an older precision Ford ........perhaps IF they are to continue to produce these precision models they will stick to newer machines?
  14. i cant speak from vast experience with weights etc other than to agree with others on the hills you`d need a heap of help pulling that quadrant full of wet (damp) silage, the round baler full is bad enough and can throw you around................. .................brown pants occasionally :D :D great pics lovely to see nice kit hard at work
  15. " mortimer`s" you are talking about is that them boys who have the pure charolais too Tris ......? down near hedge end
  16. I`m drooling here :o :o that`s a stunnin model........... and can you really put a price on such a high quality "one off" congrats B O R good as ever
  17. thank you very much for all your good wishes.......day was perfect, weather was gorgeous, I didnt fluff my lines or anything , tho alison stumbled on one line !!!lovely meal afterwards , wedding night was perfect, stayed in the Smith`s hotel at gretna ,courtesy of the matron of honour and her hubby, back home today and this is our first night together at the farm.... the cats are a bit upset they don`t know whats goin on what with some of alison`s moving cleaning etc..................No tris not my own flowers the whole thing kinda developed around me , I did very little except turn up on time. even though I wasn`t nervous nor did I panic or fret, it`s not something I`ll repeat ever again whatever life throws at me ! the one and only time thanks again guys
  18. thanks Bill, to big 40 and yes this is the other big day too, one of 55 weddings today at gretna I am told ....press to be everywhere , hopefully they will be gone before we get hitched at 3.30 . Not been nervous or worried but did have a bit of a moment last night when realisation dawned that mum won`t be there..Dad has however relented and is gonna come see me married even though he won`t join in the party. thanks again
  19. the unified range were sellers round our way , not big sellers but you would see a fair few around......yes big roomy cabs, heavy on the fuel if you worked them hard.cheap n cheerful ..buy them cheap sell them on quick ie when they were paid up 2 or 3 years old or run them into the ground was the thing.think the bigger crystals were better for work whereas the unified range was a stock or sheep farmers tractor , running round a lot but not doin much taxing work .
  20. this is the crux of the matter ...I`m a livestock man and get a bit frustrated by it all too...yes I see the good genes the best tup you`ve seen the biggest bull you`ve seen has to be worth a fair few quid but ........we`ll be lucky to know just exactly how much cash changed hands for this lad............it all looks very bad to the general public who think all farmers get thousands and thousands for all our sheep and cattle. a small note......... I`m mentioning no names one recent other high priced tup changed hands for over £50 000 LESS than the quoted final bid price ! I have been offered one third back in luck in the past if I made a certain tup a good price .The man was genuine, quite openly said "make my tup a big price and I`ll see you get 1/3 back " I didnt because I`m not in the circle and really couldn`t afford the cost of getting in there. you see it doesn`t stop there you have "tup nights " to host, shows to go to, AI and embryo transfer work....................folks wanting to "send a ewe or two down to that good tup " the list goes on ........all good fun and good luck to anyone involved .....it`s not for me , I`ll stick to my commercial end of the job
  21. i`m a gibbering wreck here now after lookin at this baby............ :o :o :o :o :o stunning, simply stunning
  22. my krone has had a major breakdown how much they quoting you for one of these beauties
