  1. The 284S and 294S in marky's brochure are built by Landini. Landini used the same cab as MF 600 series. MF owned a big percentage of Landini.

As I tried to say before the A in 3050A stands for Allrad or 4 wheel drive. Doesn't mean that MF produced a model with 3050A on the bonnet. Deere 3050's are refered to as 3050A doesn't mean it was written on the bonnet like that.

To get a model 294S with 600 series type cab you just need a ROS Landini and a pot of red paint.

so why is this one 2 wheel drive

  2. Manufacturers hp ratings can vary wildly as it depends what standard the manufacturer chooses to use. Some take the reading at the initial output at the flywheel, with and without things like the fan, alternator and other ancillaries. Obviously that gives the highest possible readout of their tractor power.

Others use different measurements with ancillaries engaged which gives a lower reading. It gets even more confusing when you start to include features like powerboost which many tractors now have in transport or pto mode.

When you get your tractor dyno tested they are testing the pto output so don't expect it to be the same as the manufacturers rated output, very few, if any, manufacturers use the pto output as their rated maximum power, it can be up to 15% less.

Another interesting site is the Nebraska test lab which was set up many years ago to test the sometimes extravagant claims of the manufacturers

You might be surprised at the results for your favourite tractor although most of the tractors tested are American and may not be available in the UK

  3. I don't know if this has been done before or whether it should be in this part of the forum or under collections :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ but as well as the models reading about tractors keeps me warm on long winter evenings, yes I'm a sad old git :-[:-[ :-[:-[ :-[:-[

So I thought I would post the collection and see if anyone has any thoughts on their favourite books.

As you can see I have no particular colour bias, well only a little one, and I have books on a number of different marques.

I do have to say that my personal favourite is Four Wheels Ahead the story of SAME Tractors by Massimo Di Nola, but really I like anything that tells the story of how the companies started and how they got to where they are today.

The next purchase will be one of the Stuart Gibbard books on the Ford tractor story

  4. This may not be of interest to many as there is something else on in Spalding on this day ::) ::)::) However, if you can't get to Spalding and you live in the North West there is a Model Train and Toy Collectors Fair being held in the exhibition hall at Haydock Park Racecourse on Sunday 6th April. The doors are open between 11am and 3.30pm and entry is ?1.50 for adults and 50p for children.

Much to my chagrin I can't get to Spalding :( :( :( :( :( so I will have to go to this event instead

  5. TW35 Powerfarm set 9390 with Vicon mower, Vari spreader and also Howard rotary manure spreader, the mower is not powered from/by the tractor. Released in 1987 deleted end of 1988, replaced in 1989 by set 9391 as described by Tractorman810. This set was deleted at the end of 1989 so is probably the rarer of the two sets. I did not know it existed until this little bit of research ;) I have the earlier set. All of the powered implements were available separately with the TW35 as also was the mower. The County was only available, from 1989, with either a NH 940 baler or animal trailer, and separately of course. The 8830 was first listed in the 1991 catalogue as "9321 Ford TW 35 (8830) Powered Tractor" It was still available with the three powered implements, separately, so presumably there are sets out there with the 8830 as opposed to the TW35, with the same set numbers. All deleted at the end of 1991 :'(

The Combine and Forage Harvester were first issued in 1988, the Forage Harvester was deleted at the end of the year and the Combine in 1989.

    Where is this advertised?

The set I have just bought is the model number 9381, is this correct or is it numbered for the American market?
