I was a little bit surprised - if not to say disappointed - by the lack of any row crop fields and/or action in the region with the exception of the agricultural university. Asking a farmer about this issue I was told that sugar beet growing in the region had been stopped with the last sugar factory near Schleswig having closed one or two years ago. Making transport to farer regions not egonomical the sugar beet quotas were sold to other farmers in more southerly regions of Northern Germany. However I had the theory, that on the island of Fehmarn sugar beet growing might have continued due to the close distance to Lolland (THE sugar beet island of Denmark). So, after a very nice family day I departed to Fehmarn late next afternoon in order to have a look if my theory was correct.

A large bridge leads of 3 miles of the baltic sea to the island Fehmarn. Just before leaving the "continent" on the motorway, I discovered some interesting tractors on the field right of the highway. So, although stopping on the emergency is not really my taste of enjoying farming action, this 30 seconds stop resulted in these two shots:

You really do strike gold when you go for a drive RDF. .. . you see so much machinery. You are very lucky mate, Germany has some excellent machines, it always looks good as well. The one photo that really stands out for me is the Fendt along side the Jaguar with the maize being blown over the trailer. Talk about excellent timing  8):) :) :)

I hope you had a nice holiday  :)
