hurlimann165
Every country seems to have their own model clubs and shows except us Irish. England has Spalding and toytrac, the netherlands Zwolle, france chartes even Northern Ireland has National mini trac. I would love to see a club set up and top quality shows being held in our country with retailers form over europe attending. Any one have any suggestions or ideas about the same??? painter
it would be great to have a big show here in ireland, with multiple sellers and displays, but what it all comes down to is whether someone takes it upon themselves to organise it!! Coxy
i like that idea . what would you think would be involved, finding a place, getting all the selling to come, gettign people with displays, ect
denis086
i would say it would be too much for one person a few people would need to get together and organise a show plus we'd need a lot of people to get behind it and we would need money to pay for the organisation and rental of the halls but an admission fee would cover that sponsorship might also help also we would have to get model shops on board
1/32collector
i have been on to alocal hotel and got a price of the ballroom for a sunday. but how many people would actually be interested in doing displays and who would like to attened. i think its bad that only 5/6 people have replyed to this topic i would be interested in puting a show together with help from others, can you please answer a few questions? what area should it be held in?? what model shops is there ?? mad for models, marks models, ??? who would put a display into it?? would any one travel down from the north?? would any one travel over from the uk or europe?? if there is any thing i forgot please add them on
nashmach
What do to do with any proceeds after costs have been deducted - you will find a good charity tends to draw crowds Timing is another - will not get farmers if it is a busy time - e.g. August, March, May, June
hurlimann165
i live in mayo and have travelled to shows in cork, waterford and dublin but I dont really have any commitments like kids etc so its easy for me. I think a central location in the country like tullamore or somewhere would be good. Are there any members on here who have experience in setting up clubs and shows in other countries who could tell us what is involved?! it seems the interest is here in Ireland but people just dont seem to have the time to organise shows. Maybe a good idea would try to organise a piggy back show at a show that is already established. Something big that attracts european visitors anyway like Fingal Rally or The national ploughing championships. DBP models attends Fingal so there must be interest here from serious collectors like ourselves. I suppose it boils down to time and support. JK
i think that a piggyback show might be a good idea to start with take the show in cork last year in the showgrounds which will be held in fermoy mart grounds this year could be an idea? ford4ever
I'd be on for helping out. They say Athlone is the middle of Ireland and while I appreciate its a little more awkward to get to from the South of the country than Tullamore,it would be more central for those travelling from the north(its only 25mins extra from Tullamore with excellent roads the whole way). There are probably up on 20 Irish based displayers on the forum so that's an excellent base to start from if most could attend. In relation to model shops there are probably 3or 4 that would attend.(i know Gand M do a show near Athlone every Jan)DBP is a big attraction at any show and I think a trader specialising in older stuff would also be attractive.I'd be surprised if mad for models wouldn't support. In fairness to the lads from UK it's not the cheapest weekend and attaching ourselves to something like the Fingal show might be more appealing.the first fingal show i attended 2 or 3 years ago had a tent with models(stan will help out here)which i think were mostly michael fingleton, garret and stan himself.Jason made the trip over as well. I'll set up another topic/poll to see how many members on the forum are Irish based and what part of the country they are based. The one thing I noticed from chats with people at National minitrac is that there are alot of collectors out there with no knowledge of the forum because of no access to computers or just no interest in the forum so advertising would be pretty key. Right who wants to be on the commmmmmmiteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. F
Rieko
Just my two cents from Holland. 1. Try to get the show in the middle of the country for Irish modellers. I don't think it will atracts many people from Europe. 2. Maybe you could find space and sponsoring from a big dealership in Ireland. 3. Don't try to get a large show at once. These things have to grow. Zwolle started 30 years ago also in a small barn in the middle of nowhere. 4. Make sure that also the large manifactorers wil attend like Britains, Siku en UH. They will make some advertising on there sites.

Tellarian
Just a few thoughts from the UK / euro perspective. For a successful show you need three things - venue, public, traders. Venue needs good access, parking. Public need advertising. Traders - need a couple of headling / heavyweights to come on board and commit - the rest will follow. Dioramas bring the public and inspire, but take space - adds to hall area. I would look at SE Ireland. Reason - if the show is to become a success ease of access from Dublin Airport. Also ease of access from Roslare - Ferries from Cherbourg, Roscoff, Pembroke - any UK or Euro dealers would most probably come that route. not that they would necessarily make money due to mileage / overhead / accommodation / ferry, but some might support is as a working holiday. Remmember many of the dealers are enthusiasts themselves and might be tempted if the date / show / venue didn't clash with anything else. Early May would be the window to look at, Bologna (Italy) is late April.
bd contracts
mad for models . there s the scratch build men. paul moyhan , garrett martins trailers the list is endless.
SPN
I reckon Fingal is the best option. Garret & I organised it a couple of years ago but nobody wanted to pick up the mantle to following year when we weren't able to travel and it died. Michael Hoey who owns the farm it is held on has always been a great help and DBP always travels over as he a friend of Michael's. It is just outside Dublin, so is handy for anybody coming from the UK (as Jason will confirm) If anybody is game to do the legwork I can give them contact numbers.
