bale weights

guys, just wondering what the average weight for a round bale is?? saw a guy today make 4 trips with a jd 6600 and tandem axel marshall bale trailer, over a 7.5 ton restricted bridge, each trip i recon he must have had 15 bales on, 2 lins of 6 on bottom and 4 on top in the middle of them width wise, now i know the tractor combo would prob be under the 7.5 ton limit, but with the bales ?? is ment to be severly weakend structure according to the signs each side,

The tractor alone weighs just under 5 tons Sean so with the trailer on as well he'd be getting near to the weight limit empty, bale weight would depend on what size bales they are but if you allowed 200-300 kg a bale you probably wouldn't be far out

Depends on the types of bales too.

Straw would be between 200 and 300kgs.

Hay closer to 400kgs and silage could be 500-600kgs.

sorry should have said hay, saw the field as i went in to the job, ,hell of a risk going over the bridge then?? ,was wide enough for him, ,guess he does it every year, know roughly where the tractor from, seen it arround before,

i would agree with nashmach but with our welger baler we can can make 4 foot silage bales over a ton but we don't because thats far too heavy they are usually 700-800kg

The bales alone would be around the 7.5 tonnes if they're 4 foot bales, which most are nowadays.
