Couldn't you just rebadge a 6640 to a 7740? I'm hoping they create a 6cyclinder 78/82/83 model next as I wouldn't buy a 7740 as too similar to the 56 and 66.

As for the lower price, I would guess that they have a load of stock left over from the much larger manufacturing runs they did for the 6640 and hence need to clear it. The model has been out for over 18 months so I think a price drop now is fair enough.

When talking to Steve last year, he mentioned some differences between the 6640 and 7740. Such as bigger tyres and and additional step to get into the cab.

If you just rebadge a 6640 then we all are going to moane about that. Also Imber has set a name for accuracy, so I hope they continue that in future models.

Even better than a 6 cylinder version would be a limited run of the County 1164-40 ;D ;D ;D

If Imber were to realise a 7740. Maybe they sould do it as the NEW HOLLAND version  to get the sales they want & skip the FORD version for now cause collectors may look at it in a way they did with the 6640 LOOKING TOO MUCH LIKE THE 5640. Another thing they could do if a FORD 7740 was on the cards is change the style of  rear wheels to something like whats on the UH Ford 7810 . Basicly they have to give it some difference to the previous 6640 & 5640 & not just another decal change! Thats the only way i look at it.

Can't see how they can make any changes, bar the small subtle ones to do a 7740, without major reinvestment, which they won't be getting if the models are being sold off cheap.  I hope the 6 cyl comes out too, as this is were they will sell many models, just have to hope the turnover can get it there.

Starting of by offering the least popular model in the range 5640 was a big mistake and now everyone can see it. You should always Start with the biggest potential seller 7840 or 8340 and then sales of the other 40 series models would have been iceing on the cake ;)  it will be a real shame if a 6cyl Imber never sees the light of day, or worse still someone like UH beats them to it :(

I don't think the problem was creating the 5640 first, I think it was the volume of the Industrial versions and the 66 models that has caused the problem. Based on the Farm Models website there were:

5640: 7000 units produced

5640 Industrial: 2500 units

6640: 11000

That's nearly 20000 units of basically the same model - that seems a lot to me for a model that is only sold through a few specialist outlets and mainly the UK. Let's hope they can clear these and so invest in the 6 cylinder model - rather than another x thousand 7740s.

I'm off to buy a 2wd 6640.
