Laois 1:32
Ross agri are still kept busy these days, fastrac is away ploughing and the lads are away discing and drilling. Getting the last few hedges cut, hopefully this is the last year with the spearhead, hoping to have a mcconnel next year. Also doing some serious tree felling work in the field next door. A lot of trees were growing over the road, so they're all getting cut down and they'll get some firewood out of it. It's quiet enough in the yard, all the slurry gear has been washed down and the tracked machine will be away next week.
Laois 1:32
Local farmer had the groundworks man over to look at his lane and entrance to the fields. It's a bit tight for the big 16t trailers and tractors these days and the farmer's getting fed up replacing fencing and gate posts. So the plan is to widen the gateway and move the gates back. Laois 1:32
Contractors arrived first thing this morning with the tracked machines and dumper. Farmer has moved his gates out of the way in the hope that he can use them again without them getting wrecked. Anyway the lads have started clearing back the top layer of gravel and moving it out of the way. Then they'll take out some of the fencing and the soil from the corner of the field. Laois 1:32
Got a fair bit done yesterday, both fields cut back, fencing and gates put back in place. Hope to get a few loads of gravel in today to finish the job off.
Laois 1:32
The lads at the trees are making good progress, just a few trees left to fell. Farmer who owns the field came to get a load of blocks out of it and yesterday they managed to burn a good lot of the old branches.
Laois 1:32
Got all the gravel down today, three dumper fulls in total, two from when it was dug out, one other. Lads have parked up the gear, will bring home tomorrow. Farmer came to inspect the work and gave out about the gravel being uneven, so he sent for his son to come with the quad & pallet. Laois 1:32
Still busy in Tobermore this week, Ross agri got their new dribble bar, so they're flat out with it. The tree felling up the road has finished, the farmer got a good load of sticks from it, just a heap of branches to burn now. Ground's a bit soft to be ploughing or drilling, but they're still busy putting up new signs and doing a lot of groundwork both near and far away. Laois 1:32
After a few good dry days, they're back at the ploughing, Discing, and drilling. Lads are still busy with the groundwork and the boss man went to see the neighbours to see about buying their stake driver and the tw25. The neighbours are hoping to sell the Ford and get a new massey so they're running an all red fleet. They're thinking of starting firewood processing as a second part of the farm business. Boss is keen to have yet another tractor in the yard.
Laois 1:32
Bit of action here today. First thing this morning a pin holding a cylinder in on the 416 broke, probably lack of greasing. So we called out the local boys and they came within 15 minutes, they say they used to have the parts in stock, but not anymore as it's an old machine. They say we can either wait a fair while for the part or trade in the machine for a brand new 419. So the boss decided to keep it and wait a while, he's done enough spending for now. Meanwhile one man went to get the Ford and stake driver they're buying off the farmers. Then the farmers realised that they were too busy to go get their new tractor, and since the low loader man was short of a job, he went to get it for them. It's a 2018 tractor, mainly hire and demo work done. Both mirrors gone, no registration plate, and a few scuffs on the mudguards. It was straight to work on the tub mixer.
