It's a swather......Cuts down crops like OSR and leaves them in swaths (like straw from the back of a combine for a baler to pick up) and then the crop of OSR is left to dry before the combine comes in with a special pick-up header (or just the normal header with reel raised up) and harvests the crop from the swath......Speeds up the combining a fair bit...... :)

The americans are big users of them use them for wheat as well so dont have combines with massive headers about and thing means crop can be harvested a tad later by letting it dry more in the swath
