Idle Git
No pictures here at the moment but I might as well confine my ramblings to one thread , So constructing a Dutch barn with lean two on either side , all going well and I have the stantions and top work completed on the Dutch barn , time to paint it , although I have a cheap and cheerful humbrol airbrush the acrylic paint wasn't keen on getting to know the styrene on my test piece so out comes a aerosol of black spray paint , did a test piece last night and great job , so started spraying this morning but run out so off to tool station and get another can off the same paint ,did the second set of stantions and great job , went to finish the first set off and major reaction , paints all blistered , so spent an hour cleaning down as well as I can but not over happy , need some really fine sand paper to get a better finish ,,,,, tho I just had a stroke of genius , the wife's emery nail file is fantastic 😊. So a lesson learnt, on the plus side the paint job was possibly to good for a Dutch barn as it's been painted a couple of times with bitumen so looks a bit scabby . Although I shook the second can well I might not have done it well enough as clear fluid came out first
Idle Git
Okay , so slow going but drier has been put in , just the burner to fit and control console . Elevator is in , just a grain pit to put in , then a block wall and finish cladding , lean to roofing turned up on Thursday , so that may get fitted on Monday if it's raining and the wife goes out

844john
That’s going to look really well when it’s done Mark. With regards to your paint problems, I can’t recommend highly enough Hycote or Halfords own brand (which is made for them by Hycote). I always try and use it whenever possible and I’ve never once had a problem with the paint reacting, even though my hands aren’t always the cleanest when I’m painting models! Idle Git
One thing I've got to get my head around is being more careful with the glue John
Idle Git
Started getting the asbestos roofs painted tonight but definitely got the colour wrong although the Dutch Barn roof and the corrugated tin side cladding will be painted black so should be some contrast there
Idle Git
A certain member on here will be glad to see his old combine under cover now So this is 1966/67/68 and apart from the brick buildings all that was here So now the hard part , time to make it scruffy and more realistic In 68 sheep joined us and the County went down the road to be replaced by a MH101

Idle Git
So been busy outside so just managed to get a bit of carpet farming done just in the last couple of days . Phase 2 is nearing completion , so the steel framed building was put up in the mid seventies and the pole barn the following year . The bay with the lurid green box profile was put up in early to mid 90's when we needed a shed capable of housing a 6 walker combine, think I'm going to tone the green paint down a tad.
Idle Git
As someone who is very new to this hobby I'm hoping when I've finished or progressed far enough to take this to a show ,,,,, please tell me if you think it's not going to be good enough 😊 but I'm just wondering how far to go , at the moment it fits onto a trestle table nicely but it's just a uninteresting Dutch barn and lean to's In real life (and that was always my aim ) there's a grain store across from the Dutch barn sliding doors and a cattle shed below the pole barn , can't see me fitting everything onto tables and the grain shed would make it a more interesting shape but could take up to much room , your thoughts on what show organisers are looking for please
Idle Git
Found this old photo from a time when we were laying concrete between the Dutch barn and lean to's and the then cattle shed which then became our not very handy grain store . We were also putting in a earth banked silage pit which is what we are stood whilst taking photo
Idle Git
Muir Hill had a Dowdeswell DP6.6 furrow plough on it for a fair few years but we.downsized for a couple of years and a mounted plough became handier
