A quick "how to" JCB fastrac hitch

JC

Question

I've heard a few complaints on here over the last few weeks about the hitch on this model so while I was doing the simple modification to mine I took a few pics for anyone else who might want to improve their model.

What you will need;

Posidrive screwdriver

File / Sander

Small pliers

Glue

SIKU rear hitch

First of all remove the old hitch using the pliers, just grab the hitch and twist it off.... it will come away quite easy due to it being plastic. Once the hitch is out of the way you need to unfasten the three screws on the underside of the model, rest the model on its roof on a flat surface while doing this so you don't do what I normally do and drop all the bits on the floor  ::)

Once you have removed all the screws you can remove the top link from the rear of the tractor, ive put it back together here so you can see where the new hitch will fit.....

Here I've removed the top part of the chassis and positioned the hitch where it will be fitted, there is a little work to do here for it to fit in the slot left by the old top link.

You will need to file around 0.5mm off each side of the hitch and then file the detail from the back of the casting so the hitch will sit in the slot ok, you can see here where I have been filing as it is now silver instead of black.

It's best to keep trying the hitch in the slot so you don't take too much off and make the joint sloppy, the tighter the fit is, the more likely it is to stay in place once glued and put back together  ;) .

Once you have a good fit and the parts mate together well, you can add a small amount of glue to the mating parts and fit them together.

Re-fit the top have of the chassis and the body work and re-fit the three screws, slot the wheels back on  and the job is done.

Here's a side view without the wheels on and a rear view just for reference.

Nice one Jason ;) ;)

ref the first pic 'i didn't know Britains made an ash tray' :D :D :D :D

Pride of my collection that trailer Paul, gets more use than any other model i have!  ::)

great info jas, very informative, does it allow implements on ok now, as i always found the old hitch to be very close to the rear wheels

That was part of the plan to bring the linkage back a little Sean, I've had a folding cultivator fitted to the new hitch so it's a vast improvement.
