JC
First time I've seen a Forage harvester fitted with a reel before, they do some Wholecrop near me but I've never seen them harvest it, just heard it across the valley!
Powerstarâ„¢
Only the JD 818 header fits the 6000/7000 foragers. They were made for the 10 series combines. Also an older Same explorer carts in a few trailers.
MJB1
A local contractor used to have a whole fleet of SAME`s which were replaced with JDs & when i foraged whole crop it was behind a tarrup mower.
Tractorman810
mjb,i might appear dim , but what is whole crop? and whats it used for? , don't ever remember hearing about it before,i take it it must be similar to wheat? if they are using a header on the forager
Powerstarâ„¢
Wholecrop can be near enough any corn based crop (with kernels or heads) that gets stored in a clamp. The only reason we were using a reel is because we had some bad winds which squashed the crop, and the Kemper wouldn't get low enough to get it up. Tractorman810
ah with you,why is it stored in clamps, excuse my dim-ness,the farm only ever cut wheat the normal way
Powerstarâ„¢
Because it is used in the exact way as silage. This farmer put about 50 ton of wholecrop on top of 4th cut silage in the pit. Cows love the stuff.

Guest Fendt pwr
Crimping grain is..... Wheat, barley or oats combined at around 30% h2o(or 3 weeks before normal combineing) with a standard combine,it's then rolled through a mill to just squeeze the pulp out,it's then put into a plastic lined pit and tightly covered, afther 2 mouths you can open the pit up and feed out the sticky seed heads to your stock, all you need is a standard bucket on the loader to scoop the grain up.This form of feed is one of the highest forms of ME you can feed your live stock, but works out to cost about 3x as much as grass pit silage. This is comman practice in finland and now starting to become popular over here.
Powerstarâ„¢
We wasn't ona bout crimping, nice explanation though, we crimp 90% of our corn. Using a Murska 700s crimper powered by a JD 6420s and rolled down by me in the MF 4245
