  1. just a few more models for the farm. i may invest in a front mounted kuhn mower for the 7430. and depending on how the new potato stor goes i may be investing in a second 16 tonne root crop trailer
  2. thnks for the comments, i have just purchased the materials needed to build 1 x 1000tonne potato store in 1/32. needless to say its not going to be small and is going to take a long time to build. i will post more photos of my custom models that will feature on the layout. this new building alone will be almost 1m in length and 45cm wide
  3. Here is the start of a model farm i am starting from scratch, i am basing it on a mix of various farms i have worked at. it will be based on an arable & contracting fleet. they farm 900 acres themselves inc 360 acres of potatoes for general ware/frying. 140 acres of OSR, 300 acres of wheat, 30 acres of fodder beet ground for a neibour to graze his sheep on, 60 acres of hay making grassland. the contracting side covers around 5000 acres of farmland potato harvesting & carting hay/silage mowing, raking, round baling & wrapping muck spreading slurry spreading/injecting bale, grain & muck carting using 12, 14 & 16 tonne trailers ploughing using 4&5 furrow ploughs min till cultivations using 3m lemken, 3m agrisem, 5m vaderstadt. power harrowing using 4m kuhn tractors on the farm & contracting jd 6930 x 2 jd 6930 + loader jd 7430 + front linkage pto fendt 724 valtra n142 mf 6290 + loader and the fleet will keep growing
  4. that jd baler/wrapper combo is amazing, and the rest of the layout is excellent, keep up the good work
  5. fantastic, finally a decent john deere baler and some more and different loader attachments, prehaps UH might follow suite and make various attachments for theit loaders. any chance of wiking making a smaller deere? 6430 or 5R series
  6. well, cheers for the advice guys and the motivation that most of you have given. im not letting it put me off and i dont let it affect my workrate it just buggs me that is all. you lot might think im a bad worker and that i give up and im really picky, but im a good hard working lad and all my bosses will tell you that, how do you think i get jobs, becouse i have had to give references on all my job applications and interviews and not one has been bad. they have all had areas where they thought i could improve but nothing bad. cheers for the advice though guys
  7. ok, my experience goes as follows ploughing-used 3,4 & 5 furrow ploughs, ive ploughed for college and for a large arable farm for charity covering about 200 acres i calnt be specific as to how much grain, muck and root crops ive carted but all together its around 160-180+ loads using 12-16 tonne trailers i have carted bales for poplars only and that was for a summer on 40ft & 30ft trailers ive spread muck using dual spreaders covering about 50 acres slurry spreading and injecting about 60 acres ive done and still do allot of loader work daily for thomases, college, suckleys & griffiths handling muck, bales, grain, potatoes & boxes i have only lambed 8 ewes and all at college, ive helped cows calve at poplars and thomases, and had to assist in around 8-10 births i have roaged 2500 acres for suckleys in summer gone and around 500 acres for poplars. i have done disbudding, worming, treating stock for various diseases at college, poplars and many other farms as part of college trips oh and to date i have cleaned and bedded down 151 cubicle beds for 46 days twice a day equaling to 12,684 times already and thats not including all the ones i have done at college and poplars. i have also had a leading role in calf rearing since october 2011 not including calves reared at poplars and college. let me know if ive missed anything out, these are the main things but dont forget i did not say i was really experienced at all these jobs and that i just had experience in some of them
  8. before i got this job i applied to many smaller farms and they just did not have enough work or the room for me and so i was stuck with no choice but to go and apply at a bigger unit where there are many more job oppertunities. unfortunatly a week into my job i was offered a job i had previously applied for working on a pig and arable farm working with the pigs throughout the year and arable through the summer. i am really regreting not going for the interview now but i didnt want to look bad and leave after a week. i would like to go to smaller farm just a few hundred acres, bit of arable, sheep, beef or dairy and fit in there. dont think im being ungreatfull as you are all giving me plenty of good advice and im very greatfull for that even though i might not seem it to some, i think my first step will be to approach my boss this week and see what he says. if it does not work out i will start looking elsewhere and mabee move a tad further into wales to the smaller farms and see what available
  9. how are you so calm about it then??? do you get treated badly??? if so do you enjoy it?? i dont know you at all but i calnt see that you would enjoy being treated badly, we all need to be treated with a little respect and treated well and no offence we should be paid a wage that is worth working for. i have been at the bottom for the past 5 years apart from a blip in the summer. ive been working on farms since the age of 12 and that was all down to me as im not really from a farming background, ive wanted it and gone for it and still not really got anywhere with it, just still the farm worker that does not look like he has a future. even with all the tickets and experience. its looking like it has all been a waste of time as it is not being put to any use at all even though there are chances for it to be used. are you having the same problem how long have you been job hunting
  10. thats a fantastic little tractor, you should be very proud of that, i bet the uh version has nothing on yours, keep up the good work
  11. id love to see plenty of new potato kit aswell, destoner, bedtillers, ridgers, planters and some miedema grading equipment, hoppers, grading tables, elavators, box fillers and im sure you can tell i love potatoe kit and have worked with plenty of different setups
  12. i wont lie, i was earning cracking money in the harvest, about £2200 a month but that was full time. that was on £5.95/hr and £8.93/hr overtime. now i dont get paid overtime and we do do quite a bit of out of after normal hours work. i do an average of 11 working hours a day and thats taken out breaktimes. i get paid a daily wage of £30 and ive broken it down so my average hourly pay is £2.72. now if i was to work every day for a month i would earn just £837. now that is not allot and dont forget i only do 3 days a week as im at college the rest so it takes me a hell of a long time to earn that money. i have worked bank holidays, all of my half terms, christmas, boxing day ect... now i like to feel im dedicated and i put up with allot and this is due to me wanting to get a good role in any farm business
  13. i understand there is not allot of money in farming as ive seen first hand how places of work and especially college have struggled and are currently struggling. i would just like to earn enough to be comfortable as at the moments im having to seriously penny pinch. and i do enjoy seing an end prodeuct and being able to say that i contributed to that. i feel really good knowing that the calves and young heffiers at work at the moment are all as good as they are mainly due to my rearing skills. but i must not forget that my boss taught me that and i really respect him for that as there are not many people prepared to take the time to teach us younger farm workers. id just like to at least be treated with a touch of respect for the work i do even if im not currently paid allot, it would certainly make me more comfortable and happier at work than feeling used
  14. minimum wage for 16-18 year olds is £3.64 and im getting nowhere near that
  15. i wouldnt be doing farm work if i didnt enjoy it and no i dont get bored easily. as i have said though, i dont enjoy being taken for a ride, lied to, being seriously underpaid (im not even getting paid anything near the anual minimun) and i have to pay for car insurance fuel costs ect.... and dont forget its not just me who wants to leave, there are 3 of us, so if you think it is bordem being the reason then it must be a boring place of work for all 3 of us to get bored
  16. i agree fully, i have found with some of the jobs ive most disliked ive learnt the most. i did all year round grading every week for JRO Griffiths and i couldnt stand it but i learnt allot about the handling of potatoes and i also got tought allot on potato store managment where i am now i have learnt a hell of allot about cubicle bed managment and calf rearing even though i dont enjoy the workplace i enjoy learning new skills and being able to put them into action.
  17. just on this topic, the summer gone i worked the most out of all the students on my college course, i did the most manual labour, i probably learnt the most aswell i was wild oat picking over 2500 acres of wheat and barley (250+hours of work) i hoovered and treated a 6000 tonne, 300 tonne and 500 tonne grain stores, i did strimming, knapsack spraying, decorating and other yard maintainance during and i did allot of grain carting. when i told my college mates about what id done they all said i was mad and they wouldnt do that...... says allot dosnt it about modern agriculture students but i feel that that is what farmers kids are like these days, not all but the majority get it easy
  18. i agree with you all, i will be honest the main reason for me looking for a new job has nothing to do with the work as i am used to being treated like a student (given the more manual labour tasks) and i will put up with them but its my boss and his brother that are really getting too me. i work along side another 17 year old and i am not bigging myself up or being cocky but i do the most work, i work the hardest and i have been told this by other work colegues (herdsman, contractors ect...). and still my boss and his brother treat him a hell of allot better than me, he gets paid slightly more and can get away with multiple mistakes. they are happy to chat to him on the yard and make me go and do work(which i have no problem with) but only if everybody pulls there own weight. the current herdsman has only been at the farm for 2 months and has already said he wants to leave and has been for 2 job interviews, the old herdsman lasted 18 months and said to me when i started that id want to leave before too long. you can ask my previous bosses what im like as a worker, and they were all pleased with my workrate and effort put into jobs. i just dont like to be taken for a ride. lied to in a job interview about how much id get paid and work id be doing. im sure you guys can understand that. i have job offers for the summer from some big farms (arable & stock). but i am getting really fed up where i am so if i can find a better offer that could progress into a long term post i might aswell ask about to see if there is one available
  19. i also have my ATV+trailer certificate, RTV certificate, MIG welding certificate and PA1 certificate. i will be training for my PA2 in april after a study tour to new zeland
  20. hi guys i am currently looking for a better job since not only myself but collegues are not getting treated very well at my current place of work. we are all struggling to get along with managment and are being overworked and seriously underpaid. i am looking for work in the shropshire area due to travel and college commitments. i have plenty of arable experience after working on units up to 7000+ acres. i know the basics of crop husbandry for a range of crops and have a decent amount of machinery knowlege. i have carted bales, muck, grain & root crops, ploughed, min tilled, spread muck, spread and injected slurry. i have also done plenty of maual labour from rouging, strimming, painting right through to building and machinery maintainance. stock tasks i have completed are milking, calving/lambing, disbudding, foot trimming, treating for various diseases, viruses ect... bedding down, cleaning out, for the last 5 months i have done plenty of calf rearing. i have also done allot of cubicle bed managment to reduce mastitis. i have worked with dairy herds up to 400 milking and sheep flocks up 650. i am used to working long hours and have worked up to 90 hour weeks. i am happy to do night shifts and enjoy what i do. i am very enthusiastic when it comes to doing jobs even the mucky ones. i am looking for a role where i can gain more skills but also show what i am capable of. my primary interest lies within the arable and dairy sectors of agriculture although i am keen to gain experiences elsewhere given the right oppertunity. i am looking for a part time job (preferably with accomodation) fror up to 4 days a week (thursday-sunday) and full time during periods of half term and full time onwards for when i leave college at the end of june. i am more than happy to send my cv to anybody interested in viewing it but if interested please contact me email: jordantitchtaylor@hotmail.co.uk thanks jordan

  24. hi mate, yeah the 7530 with licky in the window has been at your place and shes working well now, not sure who was soring the 6400, didnt have much to do with it but i think it was an independent mechanic that used to work for deere. the 6120 is a superb tractor and i think it might be from your place as when the arctic turned up in the yard with lickys 7530 on the back they has bought the 6120 with it. we are done with it now so if it is your it should soon be returned. other than that how are you getting on working at deere??
