  1. Have you got any photos of the McCormick with the loader on Gav? As that's just what we're looking to change our Maxxum for, if I can get my Dad to put some more money into the farm, just it can't support much new machinary anymore. :'(

I'll try to get you a picture next time we have it fitted, don't have it on much at the moment as we have the Loadall about all the time. Do yourself a favour though get an MTX, not an MC as the tractors fairly gutless when it comes to road work, depends what you want to use it for ;):)

  2. Lovely photo that first one of the sprayer Gav, really caught that right.  ;) Still all going good for you then chap?

Thanks Tris, certainly all seems to be going well at the moment, I'm much happier now than I was before with the other lot :)

  3. After yesterdays little problem I finally got to the other farm today with the flail topper to do the game cover plots. Could be yet another livery change for the Siku Kuhn topper here ::)

The plots then needed sub soiling, originally we were going to use the TM175 but we decided the McCormick needed some hard work as it's never had any yet so it would do it good. Put a 3 leg Taylor Gent flat lift on it with a cousins crumbler, sunk it in a good 15 inches deep, the Mc pulled it at 3mph grudgingly in the heavy clay soil but think it's done it some good as it was as gutless as hell :-\

  4. Great photo's Gav, some very nice looking steaks in those photo's. I expect you have told me but what is the head count on the farm mate, a big concern or just a bit of work to keep busy in the winter?

No idea what he has on there, we only do the arable land for him along with the baling and grassland work, the cattle are still in house. it's an all year round concern though :)

  5. It presses the stones in out of the way of mowers, tedders and balers, also out of the way of wrapped bales as they can split the wrapping. Can help iron out some bumps as well :)

  6. No, the claas tractors use deere engines and so do the leibherr loading ag shovels. Not heard of any with head gasket problems?

Thats what I said above about Claas/Renault tractors, Deere Power Systems is the part of JD that provides engines to other companies, look in the Renault Claas leaflets and handbooks and it says DPS. It's the pre 2003 models that were prone to head gasket failure, seemed to be less of a problem from tier II onwards

  7. I'm sure you will never find a range of tractors that hasn't had a serious problem. I admit that there was alot of problems, but none that havent been sorted and 9 times out of 10 they are fixed rapid. You all forget that a farmer wants his machine fixing yesterday and is not willing to wait or normally pay anything towrads a repair?

    Still think that JD is the best............... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know a good doctor who should be able to help you with that problem ::);D:D :D :D :D ;)

  8. Theres a lack of fire in these pictures, you've got plenty of smoke mind you :D

How do you transport a 4m drill on the roads?

I know but we thought judging by the smoke the JD wouldn't be long before fire consumed it ::);D

The drill folds up to under 3m wide for transport making it fit down the roads easier :);)

  9. Good pictures mate got to love the old 400's :-*  Why are the grain tank lids shut in one of the pictures or is he on headland run with low trees ???

I dont know of a JD 7*20 that hasnt had something major go wrong with it so not a well liked range so could see JD falling down the ranks which i wont moan about :D

A- Hes on the headland run and B- It was the old boss and knowing him he forgot to open them ::) ::):D :D :D :D

  10. strange you should say that gav, my unclwe works for a jd dealer(pj tuckwells at worlingwoth) been there since he left school, and he said last vist i made, they wernt selling half as much as they used to, maily due to problems with reliaillity?? how true that is i dont know, but i guess he should know,

I don't know how general it is but about here the 20 series have done a lot to damage JD's reputation for reliability, the 7*20 series have had gearbox faults and the 6*20 series have had engine problems amongst other things so I don't doubt it :-\

  11. when you get something on demo and it go's rong it do dont give you much confidence on whats on demo :(

Thats exactly what we were saying before they picked it up and on the cb's while we had it there, the question we asked each other was "why would you bring a machine to someone who could be customer if its faulty?" As it is locally JD combines have a bad reputation and the tractors are not helping matters

  12. The combine was a demonstrator, we were less than impressed with it, horrendous fuel consumption compared to the 460 which done 10am till 12 am on 400 litres of diesel, the JD done from 3.30pm till 12 am on 450 litres :o :o The dealer wasn't impressed when we told him we'd ran out of coal to put in it, said something about a possible intercooler fault :-\
