  1. read the next bit  ::)

    surely it is

Definately not a Numpty but if you persist I'll give you one instead as he says he has never been a big fan of New Holland but has made an exception for this, so if you read it properley its fine. Of course if you think it deserves a numpty it means you haven't read it properley so deserve one yourself ::) ::)::);D:D :D

  2. No offence Mart, but definitely take someone with you who knows the tractors.....even pay an engineer to check all the known points for you - ?50 spent now could save you a pile in the long run.  ;)  ( I do, if I'm unfamiliar with a piece of kit...)

Very wise words John, unfortunately my old boss never done that and came back with useless things at times or ones needing a lot of work :-\

?50 now wouldn't even cover the first hours labour at main dealers prices these days if something major went wrong :(

  3. Cheers lads......Here's the two of them......

    8340 first then 8240...... :) :) :);)

I did think the 8340 seemed to have pretty high hours Gav......

In terms of being poor tractors, I do know of plenty contractors that have and some that still do use them so they can't be so bad surely?

I know there are plenty other decent options out there but for a Ford man on my budget wouldn't a 40 range machine be best?

I would certainly say stick to a 40 series but try to find a later blue roofed one as they are less likely to suffer from problems, the 2 7840's at work are a P and R reg and have been no trouble despite the tweaking. A 7840 may be just as good a buy as a 8340 and command a bit less money ;):)

  4. i guess when you have had a tractor that long, it doesnt owe you much or has cost you much over the years, its worth spening the cash on here, must still be cheaper than buying a new tractor you dont know the history of,

A local cattle farmer done the same here with his F plate 3350, looked at changing it but due to the 10.000 hrs on the clock and age the dealer wouldn't give a very good price so they went ahead and had quite a bit of work done on it including a full PTO pack, quite a hefty bill for it but its still going strong

  5. My local New Holland dealer currently has the following two models in stock which I am interested in......The 8340 has 8800 hours and the 8240 has 5700 hours......Both are K Reg examples and look to be in pretty good condition going by the website pics......Both also have front Linkage......

I was just wondering what prices these might command as to be honest I don't know how much I've got at the minute but it may be worth trying a deposit or arrange something to perhaps secure one of these as they both look pretty good......

Cheers for any help lads...... :) :) :);)

    Mart

Forget the 8340 Martin, yes it may be a good tractor but do you really want something with that many hours on, especially an early example? Price wise I would imagine between ?7000 and ?9000 going by prices down here and don't forget that the prices that they qoute will need the dreaded VAT added to them :-\

Are you going to let us have a look at the pictures then ???::)

  6. Lots of French trailers seem to have a seperate oil tank and PTO driven pump so you can tip the trailer with a tractor without massive oil capacity ??? ??? ??? ???

Its not just French trailers Paul, the beet contractor where I used to work used to have a 17 ton AS Marston dump trailer that had a PTO driven pump and an oil tank on it, his JD 7800 just didn't have enough oil in the backend to tip it. They found out the hard way as well, kept tipping oil in as they thought it was low and when they let it down there was a funny noise and the JD needed a visit from the engineer ::):D :D

  7. Ok guys. Now i am looking for a second hand engine for my 3/42, wondered if you knew the best place to look. Thanks

Whats up with the original engine then?

Last time i was in a local dealers yard he had a couple of Nuffield scrappers in there so i'll gladly go have a look for you :)

  8. good clear pics gav,  you not keep to the same tractor then ? or they just seeing what suits you best to your ability,(could end up on a 135 yet  :D :D :D;) )

when you going to fit one of yer hoppers to the simba then ?

glad it's working out for you mate

Its myself and the bosses son who are doing most of the farm work now, each tractor has jobs that they get used for. I could have had the 70 series instead of the TM doing the subsoiling and today on the Solo but as the TM done the job ok we left it on the Plough ready for later in the week, had it have been tougher going it would have been needed as it is about 2 tonnes heavier than the TM so grips better

No seeder as yet ::) ::)

Cheers Marcus, I'm enjoying it. Doubt i'll enjoy tomorrow though, got a day at school doing a spray course :-\

  9. Thanks Gav.... I bet that does make your tractor grunt mate  :o

She certainly sounds nice pulling it. When it has the legs in deeper and is on heavy land it goes on the 8770 ;)

Nice pics Gav how many acres is that field looks a fair size

    Thanks Simon

That field is about 30 acres i think, I managed to subsoil it all yesterday so it isn't much bigger than that :);)

  10. thanks guys

Great pics again Gavvy babes... what a piece of kit as well  :o I bet that takes some lugging along  :o ... so.... how far apart do the legs work  ???

Put it this way when i found a tight spot on the field the TM soon let me know about it ::):D

There's 4 legs on it spaced across the 3m width so they are near enough 1m apart

  11. Interesting Sean......Most of the big farmers and contractors have their names on boards on the cab up here......I can't think of anyone with bonnet decals/stickers to be honest here mate...... :) :) :);)

It's the same here Martin, if a lot of people this way had roof boards around here they would be snapped of by low branches around field margins :-\

  12. Some lovely pics there Gav... tell me please.... does the NH tractor need all those weights on the front to handle that powerharrow  ??? or are they just "on there for good" if you know what I mean  ???:-\

Thanks Marky, wait till you see the weights on the TM ::);D She does need all the weight as that is one heavy harrow, it tips the scales at 1900kg so would be a tad light on the steering without them :D :D

  13. Well today I have been sub-soiling with the TM175, no pictures this time but I should have some for tomorrow night as I'll be pulling a Simba Solo 300 with it, going to see what happens when I stick the subsoiler legs into work ;D

  14. popped into sainsburys this morn, for a nice fresh loaf, only to find yesterdays late bake still out, ,asked for a fresh one to be asked"whats wrong with those??" by the baker? well i replyed you can play the drums ok with them but you'd need to use a chainsaw to cut them, and hit 5 of them, all rock hard ,"some people are never happy" was mutterd as he walked round the back and got me a nice warm fresh one, we both heard him, so close to reporting him, we both were   >:( >:(

You should have done Sean, after all would he buy them if they were like that? What happened to service with a smile, should be service with a snarl by the sounds of it ::)

  15. I've just seen 'watapity's' creation, it's fantastic Gav. It's in Impliment Conversions.

The 7840 pulled her ok with half a box of barley and some water in the tyres on the flat field. Full box and a hill and I think she'd have turned around and headed back to the yard though!!  :D

I've seen it as well Tris ;D

Our 7840's wouldn't struggle with one at 135hp and the other sitting around 145hp, they are both as powerful as the McCormick or more so :)

  16. Lovely photo's gav and that litle box drill looks a right peache mate. Had one of them on the old 78 and she ripped along quite happily. Would b a nice model Gav.

Gav, it would be a nice model.

That would be a nice model wouldn't it Gav.

What do you reckon, would that make a good model?

    ::)

If you're saying that you think a model of it would be good ::);D then I've been thinking the same thing but have no time for a few weeks to even attempt it as I have too much on. That drill nearly ended up going on one of the 7840's but they decided to use the McCormick instead :)
