  1. Little bit of shopping at Charnleys for a hitch latch cable, new old stock pivot pin, return spring and a few nuts and washers, and also a couple of internet purchases to push the job on a bit, pair of stabiliser brackets for the axle trumpets, and fresh bolts, and also some plough lights, not the proper ones but pretty dam close in looks to the originals, we took the liberty of buying 4 and they still cheaper with the postage than one lamp..... bonus was finding the box of exhaust clamps that hold the anti spill couplings for the hydraulic spools and tipping pipe, Charnleys only had the one but then I thought it be worth a try at my local Landrover spares place and low and behold I let of a box full for almost the same price as a pair from Charnleys..... Bargain, so hopefully over weekend we get a bit more done, the eagle eyed amongst you will have spotted Gemma's handiwork with a set of wafers now wire brushed and waiting for a dose of red lead 👍
  2. Aye and price might have gone up a bit now over past 3 years.... There is a rarer 3 pot 4wd based on a 10/42 and comes with a 10/42 as a parts donor but price is wrong side of 10k.... And it's more of a risk despite the rarity due to the common cracking of the blocks on the 3 pots......
  3. Cheers Smithy, 🤣🤣 that be an idea although I was talking to Marshall man Andrew Graham and he suggested putting a 100 on the wedding present list 🤣🤣
  4. Cheers John... Aye a cantatore would certainly be an investment but saying that they seem to make less coin than the corresponding Roadless converted Majors.. do you remember this one from a couple of years back down at Malvern... From memory it made a little over 6k so in the scheme of things not mega coin
  5. Am very impressed James... That's going to be a unique build 👍
  6. On way back from Blists Hill on the A5 Gemma spotted this sign... And said it's handy knowing where we can bring the 465 when it's not feeling well 🤣🤣🤣
  7. We also had a few hours at Lake Vyrnwy or summat like that, outside Welshpool, spotted this old super major trencher that looked like it wanted saving by someone. The Lake is man made and provides drinking water for Liverpool...
  8. A few from on and around the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, impressive bit of building work when your up close but couldn't walk across the towpath as was closed for railings maintenance works.... Be a hell of a view from up there crossing the river Dee valley
  9. Looks like you been busy Smithy.... We just back from a week around mid Wales and dropped in to Blists Hill Victorian town not far from Telford.... Anyhow it's a great open air museum to visit .. not much in way of agriculture but plenty of engineering to look at ... Well worth a look if your into that sort of thing.... 👍watched a live casting demo whilst we were there, and even though we didn't have any the fish and chips smelt and looked Bob on. The museum features on an episode of Mark Williams Industrial Revelations along with visiting a steel aqueduct near Wrexham which we visited on the way down into Wales...
  10. First time up at the yard yesterday for a week or two after various bits of errands and also a week down in Wales with Gemma, having a tour about along the mid Welsh coast and also a wander about the Blists Hill Victorian town just outside Telford, so now we back home thought we'd put the battery leads on and get the toys out the box, all started first turn, so duly all got a run up the lane and a couple laps of the yard to circulate the oils......need to get act together though and put some time in on finishing project 22.... Only a little over 3 months until the local show season gets going.......not really touched her since curing the leaking brake shaft seals.... But after taking these photos yesterday I can't help but think a 4wd Nuffield would slot right in and keep the theme 🤔
  11. If it's a good run on the M6 / M5 it's roughly about 4 and a half hours on the journey down Smithy though that doesn't include the mandatory stop for a full English, but can add an hour to that on the journey back up home. It's neck end of 250 miles each way.
  12. Think we be having our annual trip down on a Sunday this year for a wander about, looks at HJ Pugh's auction catalogue for the Saturday sale a few nice tractors in including a Doe and a brace of 8210s hopefully grab a few photos 👍
  13. Work in progress.... Bespoke made Stainless steel exhaust for the 472.... Length of 2 and a quarter inch diameter tube fitted with a 4 inch silencer barrel which has 2 dished baffle plates inside it with 2 and a quarter inch diameter holes through making in effect a straight through with hopefully the baffles reducing the noise a little.... started the polishing up process and have ordered a stainless steel weather cap flap for the top....the bonus of being in and around plenty of dairy pipe as your day job... And staying back abit after a days graft to make use of a TIG welder 👍
  14. A photo off one of my fellow Leyland fanatics, at the time the flagship of the range in the shape of an 804, well weighted with cast rears and a full rack out front but managed to utilize every one of her 82hp pulling 7 furrows, as Mike (Robbo) says above yes furrow widths have changed considerably over the past couple of decades but even at 12" furrows she's a good load on her even in lighter soil types... Funnily enough though another Leyland man re created a similar scene up in mid Scotland with a 465 pulling 6 furrow semi mounted....which would have really dragged the 465 down
  15. Wow John.... Every credit to you... Hard to tell in some of them photos if it's models or real deal... Stunning photos 👍
  16. Cheers Smithy, aye we had a good day at it yesterday, Gemma fairly good now with a socket set so once I laid the bits out she had them clagged back together fairly quick whilst I did the linkages and cylinders, yes this is the second of the knocked through exhausts, first one was just an inch hole with a muck fork tine but this one was knocked through with inch and three quarter solid bar and baffle completely knocked out... When a standard exhaust does the same on the 465 it's pointing to a bad batch of exhausts.....
  17. Well a days hard graft and she's back on the road, new seals in the brake housings, all refit, new linings to replace the oil soaked ones, cab nailed back down and wheels back on, replacement manifold fitted but still issues with the exhausts. Had her out to bed the new linings in and they seem to have settled in ok, but whilst pursue an answer to the exhaust issue there's still a few bits and bobs to do to keep us occupied received_1330154200861762.mp4 received_873042717274181.mp4
  18. A step backwards this weekend.... Still no joy with the exhaust issue, been back to supplier and had a chat yesterday morning, duly a replacement was issued which when fit and tested on the same route as previous.... Unfortunately same issues arose so it was duly removed and returned yesterday lunchtime where after more discussion a further 5 were issued to try to find a good one, one was tried on the 465 to prove a point it isn't the 472, and sure enough same faults arose. Under instructions of testing we even drove a tine off a muck fork down the exhaust and through the baffle but still the blisters and burning appeared..... During testing another fault arose in the shape of a leaking oil seal on the left hand brake shaft thus oiling the brake linings...... So today with Gemma's assistance we got the brakes and housing removed ready for new oil seal and gasket...... And seeing as we in for a penny as well as being in for the pound the right hand side been stripped and will re seal that side as a matter of course whilst it's now back laid up with a couple of legs up..... Shopping list next thing to be made in preparation for a rebuild next weekend before tackling the existing exhaust issues......
  19. A few hours this morning up at the yard, firstly nipped on an errand for my landlord to go and pick up a bit of firewood, so seeing as it weren't a bad morning I thought I'd give the 465 a stretch of her legs, then once back I set the tracking on the 472 and then refitted the tunnel matting.
  20. Happy New Year to all here on ftf, wishing you all good health and happiness for 2023 👍
  21. Not what you expect when you buy of a well respected spares place, it's not the supplier fault it's down to manufacture
  22. Had a run up the road to my dad's final resting place with the 472 and Gemma followed on with our 804... Furthest the 472 has been on the road, to be fair she running well, just a suspect oil seal that might require a wear sleeve when replace seals but will let it develop for now. She pulled well up onto the fell, still a bit bouncy with lack of front end weight... Biggest downside was the recent replacement exhaust that after only 5 miles up the road had started burning the enamel coating off.... needless to say I'm a bit miffed..... Anyhow a couple of photos and a happy and healthy new year to you all on here from me and Gemma. VID_20221231_104542.mp4
