bit of a silly question but thought i would ask here first, thinking of making a 1`25 lifting jib out of brass or copper and was wondering what ways people are joining pieces together for maximum strength

Best and strongest way to join brass or copper is solder, not that difficult, just use plenty of flux and give it a go.

Anyone of the brass users on here suggest a good cutting tool? I am using 2mm thick brass and have some cutting to do.

A hacksaw is too wide for an accurate cut....

There are two many corners for a table/bench saw....

Some cuts are quite long and I need a guide....

can only be a guillotine I guess Tris... assuming a bandsaw is the same headache as a hacksaw  \ - or a hegnar (spelling... hegner )

was going to say the sam marky, although it wont work on the smaller inward cuts, it would deal with the longer edges

Exactly, it's the notches and small cuts which stop me from using a guilotine. If If I could work something round the awkward end it would leave one straight long cut but the guilotine would chop off the bit I have just cut round  ???

what about one of those small hobby jig saws that squires guy sells tris? you have the transformer already dont you for the table saw?

I do mate yes. ..  I havn't got to that page yet  The catalogue has been my bedtime reading for the last week Good thought. Just hope the blades are strong enough. Actually, may be able to get tougher blads for the circular saw come to think of it.

I know mate, I don't read as a rule but she does and it peevs the hell out of me. What's the point going to be and then sitting there with the bloody light on!! So it's a kind of, if you can't beat them, join them. Not only that, I stay awake untill she has finished reading that way too. Thus increasing the chances of a bit of slap and tickle!!  :D

Sounds man enough to me. May have to contact them and see what more they can tell me. Need to cut in line with the blade and I can't see if that is possible with this for a continuous cut...

About £80 - 85

Mine cost me £110 three years ago - but worth every penny.  Superb repeatability and fast.

Uses standard 50mm discs or saw blades depending on material.

Can chop lengths, or, if using the abrasive disc cutter,  can notch material if you are careful.  nige green has one - when I saw it you knew suddenly what you were missing.

Any more ideas anyone? This stuff is cuffing hard core and it's not giving any attempt to cut it much mercy so far. ...

have you tried a decent set of tin snips mate??? might work to some point even if you have to file the edges down to finish

Not a chance Sean, Dad put it in a press at work and when it eventually cut through one half nearly took his mates eye out, he was 30ft away!!

only other option i could think of is a angle grinder and metal disc, i use that a lot even for some of my convos, i belive you can get one by wolfcraft that can be mounted on the underside of a table to allow it to be used asa sort of table saw,

That sounds feasable mate. A table saw is what it needs as I need to feed the piece into the saw rather than the other way around.

I may feed myself into it if I can't do it. It's holding the whole project up now and I am just about to throw the lot out the window  >
