DeereBoy
I just can't help but think it, i have never been interested in the grass land side of farming, to be honest, it just doesn't interest me, some people find it amazing, maybe because its a fast operation most of the time. Maybe I don't like it because there isn't a lot of that around here, but that's just my choice. There are lots of fantastic slurry tankers, silage trailers etc but what about the vegetable equipment? There has to be a market for it?!? I can't be the only person who thinks this! Why aren't you talented model builders putting your work to producing de-stoners, potato planters, ridgers, bed - tillers and even salad planters etc. I know there are some on the market but there aren't as many of these as there are silage equipment model builders. There are loads of makes out there, Grimme, Reekie, Standen pearson, Jones engineering just to name a few, so why does no one bother building them? Is it just me? what do you think?... DeereBoy
silage is hard to beat Ben wont find many veg equipment up here But then i'd say to you, parsnip, potato, carrot, lettuce etc lifting, planting, irrigation, weeding is hard to beat. I think its just peoples preference, wont find much silage here!
Murray
fair play. theres alot of hill and ground full of stone here dont think vegetable farming would go down to well. every farm you come across here in caithness is ither beef and sheep, beef or dairy so alot of silage needed

archbarch
completely agree about the lack of veg machinery. I also think there is a lack of good qaulity farm animals and livestock systems in model form.
pistol pete
I am more into the veg side of things too. most of the silage stuff that we do my way is bales and wrapping so no needed for all the trailers
Barry
Potato machinery would be brilliant, be great for Grimme to be expanded upon with UH after the "oldtimer" harvester they did, and also sugarbeet harvesters.
Fenside MF
I'm also becoming more interested in the rootcrop machinery for my collection as not enough is made by the likes of siku,rc2 etc. Members on here have made veg growing implements in the past, but I don't think theres many model building specialists like ricky, pdc etc who only concentrate on building rootcrop kit. Things like potatoe ridgers, front mounted veg toppers and packing trailers would easily be able to be built out of plastruct and plasticard as there not as complex to make as a spud harvestor or destoner. Deere-est
I guess it falls to the old saying, supply and demand. From what I have seen of scratch built root machinery it is pretty complex stuff and dare say at least in the UK that sales might not be high enough or the price would be quite high - Combines are already going the latter way. Silage gear and arable gear is the mainstay of UK cropping - cows or cereals. There is a bigger market here to attract model builders and manufacturers alike. I think some of the global players however could do a bit more as they have more countries like the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Germany where a lot of this specialist gear is used to push their models. nathan
this is a very true topic and i would love it if there was more of it. i would like to think that UH will follow up there grimme vintage spud harvester with a newer model. and i hope more stuff will follow. B O R
im starting very soon to make this kind of equipment, anything root crop you want....the reason noone does it is because ive been studying it since xmas and its mostly complex builds in this line.......even ridgers and tillers ill be using all brass which is slow to work with and also expensive,as for the big harvesters well ill be doing one to see is there a market but i know it,ll be a massive job to make and will take seriously long days to complete

As a maker of silage and grain equipment, i have some root crop trailers coming out soon from a couple of manufacturers that i deal with. i wolud like to make a packing trailer but have too many projects that need completing first. jordantaylor
i love silage and grain equipment but i would love to be able to get some veg equipment such as potatos and carrots. it would be another good route for collecters to go down as there is alot of it done round near me becouse the ground is quite flat
Tractorman810
i would love to see some decent spud and root kit made, and if we all keep asking in here maybe uncle uh's spy team will see it to, root kit is popular all over europe, so what ever make they do it will sell, given we have seen the old grimme harvestor uh seem to have links with them already so with luck that would be the brand who ever gets into this market will make a killing given no one does this stuff, maybe britains future stuff may have it in??? who knows i wish brian well doing some, but be quick mate as it will come once they see it selling for good money, its such a shame to see it happen but its a fact
IH885XLMAN
I think DT has done some nice classic Root crop machinery .his standen rapid is lovely also is his Ransomes potato-elevator-digger allong with the toppers and other grimmie potato harvesting machinery but uh rc2 etc seem to favour dairy/cereal over root/veg
jordantaylor
i would love to see either grimme or standen pearson potato equipment
