Lord Ferguson
What a beauty... I do love those old 4800 series tractors... I have such fond memories of them first being released in the UK... The storeman at my local dealers had saved me a brochure (he'd hidden it under the counter mat so nobody could pinch it)... and I also remember seeing one at the East of England show and sitting in the cab... I think they had to politely ask me to leave in the end as there was a queue of farmers waiting to have a look at it :D
MJB1
nice find steve , just hope that chaps got plenty of backend parts to cope with all that new power going through it , if i remember rightly , they had crownwheel & pinion troubles with them , basicly it wasn't man enough

Tellarian
Yes also heard the digffs could be fragile, however Mconnell Marc upped the power and lots of gear shops in the USA so maybe not such an issue if they can up spec. Not forgetting the Danes... http://www.farmerservice.dk/index.php?tid=

The Tractor Twitcher
Thanks for sharing the video and brochures on these machines Steve and Mark. Very pleased to now have a minaturised version of one of these tractors in my own collection in the shape of the Ertl 4900. As I also mentioned in my collection topic I'd love to see a Toy Farmer version of the big 5200 at some point. They certainly look far smarter in red and silver than McConnell's own yellow and black colour scheme. My only memories of seeing a real example of one of these tractors in the flesh was on a weekend away whilst staying in Wisbech around 15 years ago when Dad caught up with a dual wheel equipped 4840 ( along with an escort ) towing a set of Simba discs. I really wished he'd followed it to it's final destination instead of overtaking it.
jdc
This was in a local farm sale a year or so ago.....so there still some about. This one didn't make the reserve of (I think £25000) but sold afterwards.
