Older tractors are very easy to start wheather the Lucas or whatever ignition key they use as you only have to figure out which way is run and which way is stop on the injector pump gate and use a screwdriver or spanner to short across the starter motor solenoid. The only sure way to stop them being started up is to remove the battery and also, incase the theives carry a battery, is to break the circuit in the wiring between one of the two solenoid wires by fitting a discrete connector that you can part or break this cxircuit by shortenining one of the wires by a few inches and make up a double ended connection with a length of wire in order to stop them from just connecting the wire back up because it would not then reach.

That lot will almost certainly have gone out of the country completely undetected in containers. Eastern Europe going by the makes and so on. Far too easy. Anyone using a tractor daily won't want the hassle of having to refit a battery as part of their morning feeding routine, the alternative may be no more tractor but it's a consequence few give thought too. I'll keep a note of the registrations Mike, you never know what may get picked up at an auction or seen at a yard.

Not just Agri tractors now, there appears to have been a major spike in JCB machines during September. I don't have details of models and some will no doubt be plant type machines but others will be telehandlers

Slightly different vehicle this time.

Stolen from a Lancashire small holding in June 2011 was an unusual farm vehicle. It was a 2001 Kawasaki Mule in red and black. What makes this vehicle unusual is that the owner fitted a gas conversion tank under the nearside seat. There is a gas tap on the nearside of

the vehicle. This appears to be a rare conversion. With only 700 hours on the clock it was in very good condition.

I do have the chassis number of required

Big rise in Kero and Gasoil thefts round this area according to our local Farmwatch. Locking a polythene tank is no good as they just drill through - made a mess of a couple of bunded tanks locally - idiots.

You're lucky if they drill the tanks here, they usually carry gas bottles with them arount here and heat a spear up on the end of a pump hose. Once its red hot they shove it straight through the plastic tank and suck out the contents, almost 100% silent compared to a drill >:(

Same down here, Gav. Drilling is no good as they can get award in their highly prized loot! Many tractors don't even come with a locking cap nowadays, cheaper to let the diesel be stolen than have to pay or claim for the tank too. Sad state of affairs  :(

Its not just tractor tanks they are doing in this manner, its the household and farm bulk tanks as well. Trouble is their holding tank isn't always big enough so they often leave a mess behind them as well when the remainder runs out across the yard
