B O R Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 a supplier recently sent me a broken mf3080,all was broke was the mirror and one step..so i added a front linkage, made a new exhaust, resprayed the chassis in the proper charcoal grey and added new wheels and tyres and new decals....the final decals still have to be fitted, the ones i had were too long so i just cut out the wording and numbers for now and stuck them over the existing decals...i will add a beacon also Quote
B O R Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 this was a common sight around her at a time. the 3000 series rotavating Quote
B O R Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 my last pic for now of my new "toy"...........in time im going to do a few more of these conversions for myself as the uh tractor is a good base model fro the job Quote
Paul Palmer Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 how have you lengthened the model then bor? as obviously the 3120 is longer than the 3080,another outstanding build i may add, superb Quote
B O R Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 my model was based on a 1994 model 3120.....the 1994 version had MASSEY FERGUSON written across the top of cab front, earlier versions werent always fitted with this,i believe this decal came in around mid to late 1992 as ive seen 1993 tractors with this decal fitted............the later 1995 versions also had the decal across cab fornt and also came as standard with a curved top exhaust Quote
B O R Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 paulali the 3080/3090 and 3120 and 3125 all had the same wheelbase of 106 inches...the 3090 and 3120 and 3125 had a 2 inch wider track width then the 3080 and 3070.....the 3120 and 3125 were however 6 inches longer than the 3080 and the 3090,the 3080 and 3090 were 175 inches long and the 3120/3125 were 181 inches...the extra 6 inches must have been a combination of a heavier duty linkage and/or a slightly longer and heavier front weight frame to accomodate an uprated and heavier set of weights,id guess that it was both a different weight frame at front and a heavier and slightly longer set of lift arms that gave the extra 6 inches Quote

Paul Palmer Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 also bor,im sure this will be asked or wanted to be known by many, what wheels and tyres did you use? cheers Quote
Fenside MF Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 These look so much better on bigger wheels, nice work Brian,I'd like to try uh celtis wheels on one sometime. I'd guess there uh claas or renault 836 rims Paul \ Quote
B O R Posted May 29, 2011 Author Posted May 29, 2011 836 rims and 5480 tyres, seem a good enough combination and i had loads of 5480 tyres here so that saved me buying a 3rd tractor just for tyres.....the wheels that were on the 3080 were terrible looking and they made the tractor look very narrow, there is a bit of work to do to the 836 rims to get them adapted but there almost identical to the real thing Quote
Tractorman810 Posted May 29, 2011 Posted May 29, 2011 These look so much better on bigger wheels, nice work Brian,I'd like to try uh celtis wheels on one sometime. I'd guess there uh claas or renault 836 rims Paul \ mines already in the celtis wheels mate, just awaiting a part i need to get sorted before its posted, mind you so is the 3125 i did ages ago, thats in the ash tree topic recentlyi also have a set of 836 rims ready to use, test fitted the tyres the other day and its a real simple job to do, just needs a small filler into the rims hub to allow fitting, the curious thing i have noticed is every 3080 brouchure i have seen has the skinny wheels fitted, and the 3090, onlt difference i can see is the rear hubs, thats it, so uh do actually have them right in my eyes, what farmers have done to them after i guess is what makes them look different to the uh models??
