hauling hp

As a very rough guide yes but if you have hills or some tough hauling no, not enough. As with many things that you ask, there are a lot of variables that affect individual circumstances so it is very difficult to give a specific answer.

I got to be blunt here, nearly every question you ask has no definitive answer, Niall. There are just too many variable in agricultural machinery, type, usage, conditions, environment to give a single answer for anything be it a power harrow or a trailer, a 100hp tractor or a 500hp track layer. . ... Many things can be only be answered after being tried and tested first.

If it's a Ford 7610 or 7810, then 12 tonnes is no bother, or even 14.

If you come up the years, to a 40 series, you would easily haul 12 tonnes with an 85hp 6640.

The Fiat 110-90 would pull 12 tonnes all day, as long as you keep the revs up.

Not sure about the second string brands.

thats providing you could actually find someone who would actually want to drive these tractors as the gearbox was so bad you'd trundle around in high 2nd all day as the trailers would be so heavy you lose all momentum & come to a stop before you found a higher gear , second string brands ? they wouldn't make it into my top 5 stan  ;D ;D ;)

ah seriously , these tractors would be fine with these trailers , much comes down to the area ,conditions , & operator competence.

but as a rule yes, 10hp per tonne is a pretty good way of judging it

u will probably pull it fine but stopping it may be  a probem down big hills nd u would want a bigger 6 cyclinder tractor normlly as they have more weight so dont get pushed as much by the weight in the trailer

again this all depends on conditions

eg

at cerne abbas estate we had JD 7710's but only had 10 tonne trailers , even with the tractors fully weighted up traction was a real problem as we were on chalk hills, when chalk gets wet /damp /dry hard & shiney it gets slipery we'd sometimes have to drive half way up the hedges to keep some traction to get down some of the hills. it was awfull stuff to haul on, even on some of the dryest days it could be like glass to drive on
